OASIS and SVMCM Scholarship Name Mismatch in West Bengal: Fix the Right Record First
Your application is stuck, or the scholarship was sanctioned but never paid. The portal says name mismatch or Aadhaar seeding failed. Usually one record spells your name differently from the others: Aadhaar, the bank account, the caste certificate or the marksheet. This page shows how OASIS and SVMCM check your name, which record to fix first, and why a scholarship mismatch almost never needs a gazette.

OASIS and SVMCM Name Mismatch (Quick Answer)
OASIS and SVMCM pay the scholarship by Direct Benefit Transfer into a bank account linked with Aadhaar. If the name on your bank account does not match Aadhaar, the payment fails. So fix that pair first: ask your bank to correct the account name to match Aadhaar and to seed Aadhaar for DBT, which is free. For OASIS, the caste certificate must also match. Your marksheet usually stays as it is. A spelling mismatch needs no gazette. Changes to the application go through your college or school (HOI).
| Record | Why it matters | Who fixes it |
|---|---|---|
| Bank account name | Payment fails if it differs from Aadhaar | Your bank branch, free |
| Aadhaar | Seeding and DBT run on Aadhaar | Aadhaar Seva Kendra |
| Caste certificate (OASIS) | Checked by certificate number | SDO office that issued it |
| Marksheet | Proves marks and identity | Usually left as it is |
| The application | Must match your records | Your college or school (HOI) |
How OASIS and SVMCM Scholarships Check Your Name in West Bengal
OASIS is the West Bengal portal for SC, ST and OBC scholarships, run by the Backward Classes Welfare Department. When you register, it asks for your caste certificate number and date and checks them against government records. So the name on your caste certificate matters from the first step.
SVMCM, the Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship, is run by the Higher Education Department. It checks your marks, your family income and your bank account, and your college verifies the application.
Both pay the money by Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into your own bank account. DBT works on Aadhaar. The bank account must be linked, or "seeded", with your Aadhaar, and the payment system compares the two names.
That is why most stuck scholarships come down to one pair: Aadhaar and the bank account. The other records matter at the verification stage, but the money moves only when the bank and Aadhaar agree.
What OASIS and SVMCM Name Mismatch Messages Usually Mean
Portals change their wording from year to year, so read the exact status on your login. These are the common ones and what they usually point to:
- Aadhaar seeding failed or Aadhaar not linked: your bank account is not seeded with Aadhaar for DBT, or it is seeded to a different account. Go to the bank.
- Name mismatch in bank account: the account name differs from Aadhaar or from the application. Fix the bank name to match Aadhaar.
- Payment failed or returned: often an inactive account, a closed account, or a name mismatch at the bank. Ask the bank for the reason.
- Caste certificate not verified (OASIS): the certificate number, date or name does not match the record. Check the certificate details you entered first.
- Rejected by HOI or sent back for correction: your college found a mismatch in documents. Ask the scholarship desk exactly which one.
Write down the exact message and the date. It saves a second trip to the bank or the college.
Scholarship Bank Account Name Mismatch and Aadhaar Seeding
Take your Aadhaar and passbook to your bank branch. Ask for two things: correct the account name to match Aadhaar exactly, and seed Aadhaar to this account for DBT. Both are free. Banks usually do this with a simple form and a copy of Aadhaar.
Small differences matter. Md Rahim on the bank and Mohammad Rahim on Aadhaar, or Marmu and Murmu, can be enough to stop a payment. Our pages on Md, Mohd and Sk name spellings and Santali name spellings explain why these differences happen.
Do not open a new account in a different spelling
A new account seeded with Aadhaar can pull DBT away from your old account, and a second spelling makes things worse. Correct the existing account, or ask the bank which account Aadhaar is seeded to.
Our bank account name correction guide has the branch steps.
When Aadhaar Itself Has the Wrong Name for Your Scholarship
Sometimes Aadhaar is the odd one out: the bank, the marksheet and the caste certificate all agree, but Aadhaar has a different spelling. Then fix Aadhaar, not everything else.
Aadhaar allows a name change only twice in a lifetime, so do it once and to the spelling you will keep. UIDAI changes the name to what your proof document shows, such as your PAN card or a school certificate with a photo. The update is done in person at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. If you are under 18, you will usually need your birth certificate. Our Aadhaar name change guide has the steps.
After Aadhaar is updated, go back to the bank so the account name and seeding match the new Aadhaar.
Caste Certificate Name Mismatch in an OASIS Scholarship
OASIS checks your caste certificate number and date against the government record. If your name on the certificate differs from your other records, the verification can stop. First check that you typed the certificate number and date exactly, because that is the most common mistake.
If the name on the certificate is really wrong, the correction goes to the SDO office that issued it. Do not apply for a fresh certificate in a new spelling: that leaves two genuine certificates in two names, which causes bigger trouble later. If only your father's name is wrong on it, see our page on father's name correction in a caste certificate. For other corrections, see name change in a caste certificate.
Marksheet Name Mismatch in OASIS or SVMCM Applications
Your Madhyamik or Higher Secondary marksheet is the hardest record to change. Boards correct errors against the school admission register, not chosen spellings. So in most cases, leave the marksheet as it is and bring the other records in line.
If the marksheet differs from Aadhaar only in spelling or a short form, a one and the same person affidavit usually satisfies the college during verification.
If the marksheet has a real error, where the register and the certificate differ, the correction goes through your school to the board, and it takes weeks. Start it early, but do not wait for it to finish before fixing the bank and Aadhaar, because the scholarship deadline will not wait.
Our marksheet correction guide explains the school route.
Updating Your OASIS or SVMCM Application Through the HOI
Once your records match, the application itself may still show the old details. For SVMCM, changes to bank details and course information go through the Head of Institution (HOI) of your college. OASIS applications are also verified by your institution before they move on.
Go to your college or school scholarship desk with the corrected passbook page, Aadhaar and, if needed, the affidavit. Ask them to update or send back the application for correction, and to resubmit it. Do this before the portal's last date, which is announced each year on the official portal.
This is free. No agent is needed for any part of a scholarship correction, and that includes us. If someone asks for money to "update your OASIS name", go to your college instead.
How to Fix an OASIS or SVMCM Name Mismatch, Step by Step
Read the exact reason
Note the status message on the portal, such as Aadhaar seeding failed or name mismatch.
List every version
Marksheet, Aadhaar, bank passbook, caste certificate and the application. Write how each one reads.
Match the bank to Aadhaar
Correct the account name and seed Aadhaar for DBT at your branch. Free.
Fix Aadhaar only if it is wrong
Once, at a Seva Kendra, with a proof document in the right name. Then return to the bank.
Check the caste certificate
For OASIS, correct it at the SDO office if the name is wrong. Never get a second one.
Update through the HOI
Ask your college or school to update and resubmit the application before the deadline.
Common Mistakes With Scholarship Name Mismatches
Changing Aadhaar when the bank is the problem
If Aadhaar is right and the bank is wrong, fix the bank. Do not spend one of your two Aadhaar name changes.
Opening a new account in a new spelling
It can pull DBT away from the old account and adds one more version of your name.
Applying for a second caste certificate
Correct the existing one at the SDO office. Two certificates in two names cause trouble later.
Waiting for a marksheet correction before anything else
Board corrections take weeks. Fix the bank and Aadhaar first so the deadline is not missed.
Paying anyone to fix the portal
Bank correction, Aadhaar seeding and HOI updates do not need an agent. Use your college desk.
Do You Need a Gazette for a Scholarship Name Mismatch?
Almost never. A scholarship mismatch is nearly always a spelling, short form or order difference between records you already have. The fix is to correct the bank or Aadhaar and, where an office asks, to show a one and the same person affidavit. A gazette is for a real change of name, such as taking a new surname, and it would not change your bank, Aadhaar or caste certificate by itself anyway.
If you really are changing your name, our gazette name change guide explains the state and central routes. But do not let anyone sell you a gazette just to get a scholarship paid.
OASIS and SVMCM Name Mismatch: Frequently Asked Questions
Why was my OASIS scholarship sanctioned but not paid?
Most often the bank account is not seeded with Aadhaar, or the account name differs from Aadhaar. Ask your bank to correct the name and seed Aadhaar for DBT.
What does Aadhaar seeding failed mean?
Your bank account is not linked to your Aadhaar for Direct Benefit Transfer, or Aadhaar is linked to a different account. The fix is at your bank branch and it is free.
My bank account says Md and Aadhaar says Mohammad. Will the scholarship fail?
It can. Ask the bank to change the account name to exactly match Aadhaar. That is usually quicker than changing Aadhaar.
Should I change Aadhaar or the bank account?
Change whichever one is wrong. In most cases Aadhaar is right and the bank is wrong, so fix the bank. Change Aadhaar only if Aadhaar itself has the wrong spelling.
My caste certificate has a different spelling. Can I still apply for OASIS?
First check that you entered the certificate number and date correctly. If the name on the certificate is wrong, ask the SDO office that issued it to correct it. Do not apply for a second certificate.
Can I change bank details in SVMCM after applying?
Bank detail changes in SVMCM go through your college's Head of Institution. Ask the scholarship desk to update and resubmit the application.
Do I need a gazette to fix a scholarship name mismatch?
Almost never. A spelling or short form difference is fixed at the bank or Aadhaar centre, with an affidavit where an office asks. A gazette is for a real change of name.
My marksheet name differs from Aadhaar. What should I do?
Usually leave the marksheet as it is and show a one and the same person affidavit if the college asks. Correct the marksheet through your school only if it has a real error.
Is fixing the bank name for a scholarship free?
Yes. Banks correct the account name and seed Aadhaar without a fee. You need Aadhaar and your passbook.
I am under 18. Can I correct my name in Aadhaar for the scholarship?
Yes, at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. For a minor, a birth certificate is usually the proof document. Remember that each Aadhaar name change counts towards the lifetime limit of two.
Should I open a new bank account for the scholarship?
Usually no. A new account seeded with Aadhaar can pull DBT away from the old one. Correct and seed your existing account unless the bank tells you it cannot be used.
Can someone else fix my scholarship application for a fee?
There is no need. Bank correction, Aadhaar seeding and application updates are free and done through your bank, the Aadhaar centre and your college.
