The Form Is Free, and So Is the Fix
The departmental guideline says the prescribed application form is to be made available free of cost, and the official sources describe no application fee and no intermediary fee. If your payment has stopped over a name, the cause is almost always at the bank, and correcting it there costs nothing. Please read this before you pay anybody, including us.

Name or Aadhaar Mismatch (Quick Answer)
Payment is made by direct bank transfer to an Aadhaar-linked bank account held solely by the eligible woman. So two things must line up, and either one can stop the money even when your application is approved. One, the name your bank holds in its own records must match your Aadhaar. Two, your account must be Aadhaar seeded so the transfer can route to it. Both are checked and corrected at your bank branch, free. Anything the record itself needs goes to the office that received your application, which the guideline describes as the BDO or SDO outside the Kolkata Municipal Corporation area. No gazette is involved, and the guideline says the form is free of cost with no intermediary fee.

| The problem | Where it is fixed | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Bank record name differs from Aadhaar | Your bank branch | Free |
| Aadhaar not seeded to the account | Your bank branch | Free |
| Joint account instead of a sole account | Bank, then your BDO or municipality | Free |
| Wrong name recorded in the application | The office that received it | Free |
| Aadhaar itself carries the wrong name | Aadhaar Seva Kendra | Aadhaar fee |
| Removed from the list | Written grievance to the department | Free |

What the Guideline Says About Money
The controlling departmental guideline is a notification of the Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Department, Government of West Bengal, and it is worth knowing what it says on cost.
The prescribed application form is to be made available free of cost. The official sources describe no application fee, no intermediary fee and no repayment obligation. The scheme is not a loan.
We put that at the top because the people most affected by a stopped payment are the least able to afford somebody charging them to restart it. If a person or a shop asks you for money to fix this, you do not need them.
Including us
We are a paid documentation consultancy and this page will earn us almost nothing. We would still rather you kept your money than spent it on something the government does for free.
Only wb.gov.in Is the Real Portal
While researching this page we found several websites with names designed to look like the official portal, ending in things like .in, .online and .shop rather than wb.gov.in.
They are not government websites. Some of them invite you to upload your Aadhaar so it can be resized or converted for an application.
Do not do that. Do not upload your Aadhaar, your passbook or your bank details to any site whose address does not end in wb.gov.in. A government portal address ends in gov.in, and for this state it ends in wb.gov.in.
If you are not certain, do not use a website at all. Take your papers to your BDO office or municipality office in person. It is slower and it is safe.
How to check in five seconds
Look at the end of the address, not the beginning. Anything can be put before gov.in in a name; only the government can use the gov.in ending itself.
Start at the Bank, Not With a Consultant
Payment is made by direct bank transfer to an Aadhaar-linked bank account held solely by the eligible woman. Almost every stopped payment traces back to that sentence.
Take your Aadhaar, your passbook and, if you have it, your application acknowledgement to your branch, and ask two questions plainly:
One. Does the name you hold in your records match my Aadhaar? Banks keep their own version of your name, and even a small difference can fail an automated check.
Two. Is my Aadhaar seeded to this account?
Do not leave until you have the answer to both. Both are corrected at the branch, and neither costs anything.
Why the bank and not the office
Because your application can be fully approved and the money can still fail to arrive. Approval and delivery are two different stages, and the bank controls the second one.
Aadhaar Seeding, Explained Simply
Aadhaar seeding means your Aadhaar number has been linked to that particular bank account so a government transfer can find it.
Having an Aadhaar, and having a bank account, is not the same as the two being connected. Plenty of people have both and no link between them, and the payment then has nowhere to land.
It is done at the branch, it is free, and it is the first thing to check when money has not arrived. If you have more than one account, make sure the seeding is on the account you actually gave in your application.
Ask for confirmation
Ask the branch to confirm the seeding is done before you leave, rather than being told it will be done. A follow-up visit is easier to avoid than to arrange.
Why the Account Must Be Yours Alone
The guideline describes an Aadhaar-linked bank account held solely by the eligible woman.
That matters because a great many households operate joint accounts, often with a husband or a parent. An account held jointly is not what the scheme describes, and it is a reason a payment can fail that has nothing to do with spelling.
If your account is joint, raise it at the branch and at your BDO or municipality office before spending effort on anything else, and ask what the office wants you to do.
Check before you assume
Many people are not sure whether their account is single or joint. The passbook will tell you, and so will the branch.
Which Office Handles a Record Correction
Where the application record itself is wrong, rather than the bank record, it goes back to the office that received your application.
The guideline describes three stages: application, where the signed form and documents are submitted at the authorised place; verification and recommendation, where designated officials examine it and the BDO or SDO handles the prescribed recommendation outside the Kolkata Municipal Corporation area; and sanction.
So for most of West Bengal that means your Block Development Office. In a municipal area, the municipality office. Inside Kolkata Municipal Corporation, ask at the office where you applied.
Take the acknowledgement
The application number on your acknowledgement is what lets an office find your record quickly. If you have lost it, take your Aadhaar and note where and roughly when you applied.
Always Get It in Writing
This is the single most useful habit for anyone dealing with a stopped payment, and it costs nothing.
If an office gives you only a verbal answer, submit a short written grievance: your name, your application number, what is wrong, and what you want corrected. Then ask for a dated receiving stamp, a diary number or an acknowledgement on your own copy.
A verbal answer leaves you with nothing to follow up on and nothing to show the next official. A stamped copy turns a conversation into a record.
Keep everything
The acknowledgement, every stamped copy, and any letter you receive. Keep them together. They are the whole of your case if this takes months.
When It Is Not a Name Problem at All
A name mismatch is one reason a payment stops. It is not the only one, and paying to fix the wrong thing is a real risk here.
The guideline itself provides for annual life-status verification and for payments being stopped or withheld, and eligibility conditions are checked over time.
So the right first question at the office is not please correct my name. It is what reason is recorded against my application? Ask for that in writing, and then deal with the reason you were actually given.
If your name has been removed from a list, that is a question of eligibility and verification, not of what you are called. A gazette notification would do nothing for it.
If it turns legal
District Legal Services Authorities give legal aid free of charge in every district of West Bengal. For anything about entitlement or removal, that is a better door than a private consultant.
One Thing We Could Not Confirm
We would rather admit a gap than fill it with a guess.
A great many websites report that Lakshmir Bhandar was replaced from June 2026 by a scheme paying a uniform monthly amount, with existing beneficiaries migrated automatically. Others say the older scheme continues. The reported monthly figures also differ between sources.
We could not confirm any of that from an official government source, so we are not going to state it here as settled, and you should be careful of any page that does without showing you a notification.
What to do instead: check the official wb.gov.in portal, or simply ask your BDO or municipality office. They can see what your own record says, which is more useful than anything a website can tell you.
The good news
Whatever the scheme is called, the mechanics on this page do not change. An Aadhaar-to-bank name match and Aadhaar seeding are needed for any direct benefit transfer, under any name.
When We Can Actually Help
Almost never, for this. The bank fix is free, the office correction is free, and the form is free. That is the honest position.
There is one situation where a documentation consultancy is any use: where your Aadhaar itself carries the wrong name and needs a genuine correction. Even then, the usual route is a supporting document you already hold rather than a gazette.
What we will not do is charge you to visit a bank on your behalf, or sell you a gazette for a payment failure. Neither would work.
The Aadhaar name change route, and why a name in a different order is not an error at all.
Two questions for anyone who offers
What exactly will you do that I cannot do at my own bank branch? And what is the government fee, as a separate number from yours?More on judging a consultant.
Name or Aadhaar Mismatch: Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to pay anyone to fix this?
No. The departmental guideline says the prescribed application form is to be made available free of cost, and the official sources describe no application fee and no intermediary fee. Correcting a name at your bank branch and linking your Aadhaar there also cost nothing. If someone asks you for money to sort this out, you do not need them.
Which website is the real one?
The official portal address ends in wb.gov.in. There are lookalike websites with similar names that are not government sites, and some of them invite you to upload your Aadhaar. Do not upload your Aadhaar or bank details to any site that does not end in wb.gov.in, and if in doubt take your papers to your BDO or municipality office instead.
Why does a name mismatch stop the money?
Because the payment goes by direct bank transfer to an Aadhaar-linked account held solely by the eligible woman. That means two separate things have to line up: the name your bank holds in its own records must match your Aadhaar, and your account must be linked to your Aadhaar for the transfer to route to it. If either fails, the transfer fails even though your application is approved.
What is Aadhaar seeding, and where do I do it?
It is the linking of your Aadhaar to that particular bank account so a direct benefit transfer can find it. It is done at your bank branch, free, and it is the first thing to check when a payment has not arrived. Ask the branch to confirm both that your Aadhaar is seeded to that account and that the name they hold matches your Aadhaar.
Does the account have to be in my name only?
The guideline describes an Aadhaar-linked bank account held solely by the eligible woman. So a joint account is not what the scheme contemplates. If yours is a joint account, raise that at the branch and at your BDO office before anything else.
Which office handles corrections?
Take it to the office that received your application. The guideline describes the BDO or SDO handling the prescribed recommendation outside the Kolkata Municipal Corporation area, so for most of West Bengal that is your Block Development Office, and in a municipal area the municipality office. Ask for your correction to be recorded in writing.
They only answered me verbally. What should I do?
Put it in writing. Submit a short grievance stating your name, application number, what is wrong and what you want corrected, and ask for a dated receiving stamp or a diary number on your own copy. A verbal answer leaves you with nothing to follow up on.
My payment stopped but my name is correct. Why?
A name mismatch is only one reason. The guideline itself provides for annual life-status verification and for payments being stopped or withheld, and eligibility conditions are checked over time. So ask the office what the recorded reason is rather than assuming it is a spelling problem and spending money on the wrong fix.
Has the scheme been replaced by Annapurna Bhandar?
A great many websites report that Lakshmir Bhandar was replaced from June 2026 by a scheme paying a uniform monthly amount, with existing beneficiaries migrated automatically. We could not confirm that from an official government source, so we are not going to state it as settled. Check the official wb.gov.in portal or ask your BDO office, because the office will know what your own record says.
I was removed from the beneficiary list. Can a gazette help?
No. Removal from a list is a question of eligibility and verification, not of what you are called. A gazette notification changes a name and would do nothing here. Ask the department for the recorded reason in writing and use the grievance route. If it turns on something legal, District Legal Services Authorities give free legal aid in every district.
When would I actually need a name change document?
Only where your Aadhaar itself carries the wrong name and needs a genuine correction, and even then the usual route is a supporting document you already hold rather than a gazette. If the Aadhaar is right and only the bank record is wrong, the bank fixes it and no gazette is involved at all.
What should I take with me to the bank?
Your Aadhaar, your bank passbook, and if you have it the application acknowledgement. Ask two questions plainly: does the name you hold match my Aadhaar, and is my Aadhaar seeded to this account. Get the answer to both before you leave.
