Anganwadi Worker and Helper Recruitment Name Mismatch in West Bengal
Anganwadi Worker and Helper posts in West Bengal are filled district by district, for women who live in the ICDS project area or the centre's locality. That is exactly where name problems start: your Madhyamik papers carry your maiden name, while your residential certificate and voter card carry your married name and your in-laws' address. District notices say the name you type online is final. This page shows how to make your papers agree.

Anganwadi Recruitment Name Mismatch (Quick Answer)
For an Anganwadi Worker or Helper post in West Bengal, type your name as your Madhyamik admit card or certificate prints it, because district notices treat the online particulars as final. If your residential certificate, voter card or Aadhaar carries your married surname, carry your marriage certificate; for a spelling difference, an affidavit. Most candidates do not need a gazette. An affidavit costs about Rs 50 to Rs 300.

| Problem | Usual fix |
|---|---|
| Maiden name on Madhyamik, married name on voter card | Marriage certificate |
| Residential certificate spells the name differently | Ask the issuing Pradhan or Councillor to reissue it |
| Aadhaar in English differs from the Bengali spelling | Affidavit, or correct Aadhaar |
| Wrong spelling typed online | Particulars are treated as final; check before submit |
| A real change of first name | Gazette notification |
How Anganwadi Worker and Helper Posts Are Filled in West Bengal
Anganwadi centres run under the ICDS scheme of the Department of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare. Vacancies are not filled through one state exam. Each district, through its ICDS cell under the District Magistrate or a Sub-Divisional Officer, publishes its own notice for its own ICDS projects.
In August 2024, for example, the SDO in Alipurduar issued Memo No. 719/SDO/2024 dated 12 August 2024 for a written examination for these posts, and Paschim Bardhaman's ICDS cell ran an online drive from 21 August to 18 September 2024.
Job sites reported the Paschim Bardhaman selection as a 90 mark written test and a 30 mark viva. Other districts may differ, so read your own district's notice on its gov.in website.
Because the posts are local, so is the paperwork. Your residence in the project area is checked, and that is where a married name usually shows up.
Anganwadi Eligibility in West Bengal: Old Order, New Notices
The state's 2006 order, No. 288-SW/3S-225/05 dated 25 January 2006, set the older rules: women aged 18 to 45, Madhyamik pass for a Worker and Class IV for a Helper, graduates not eligible as Workers, and residence in the project area (Worker) or the centre's locality (Helper), proved by a residential certificate.
Job sites reporting the 2024 district drives describe different rules: Class 12 and an age limit of 18 to 35. We could not read the newer state order ourselves, so we name the difference rather than guess. Your district notice is the one that binds you.
What has not changed is the local link. Every version ties the post to where you live.
Anganwadi Online Application Form: Your Name as Typed Is Final
District notices reported by job sites say that all particulars in the online application, including the name of the candidate, date of birth and address, will be considered final.
So type your name exactly as your Madhyamik admit card or certificate prints it. That is the document that carries both your name and date of birth, and it is the one asked for as age proof.
Check the preview before you submit. A missing letter in a Bengali surname written in English is the most avoidable problem on this page.
Maiden Name on Madhyamik, Married Name on Voter Card: Anganwadi Applicants
If you are a married woman living in your in-laws' village or ward, your Madhyamik and Higher Secondary papers may carry your father's surname while your voter card, Aadhaar and residential certificate carry your husband's surname and the new address.
That is not a fault. It is two true names, and the document that links them is your marriage certificate. Carry the original and copies at document verification. If the marriage was never registered, see marriage certificate correction and registration.
Some women also have a voter card still in the maiden name at the parents' address. Move it to the new address through Form 8, which is free; see voter ID name change after marriage.
Residential Certificate for Anganwadi Recruitment: Check the Name
The 2006 order lists who can issue the residential certificate: the MP, MLA, Sabhadhipati, Sabhapati of the Panchayat Samiti, Pradhan of the Gram Panchayat, Chairman of the Municipality, Councillor, Commissioner, or the District Magistrate.
The name on it may be in the married form, or spelt from the Bengali. Before you apply, read it letter by letter against your Madhyamik certificate. If it is wrong, ask the same office to reissue it; that is quicker than any affidavit.
In a census town there is no municipality, so the Gram Panchayat Pradhan usually issues it; see census town or municipality.
Documents to Keep Ready for an Anganwadi Worker or Helper Application
Job sites list what district drives ask for: Madhyamik admit card or birth certificate for age, Higher Secondary mark sheet, voter card, Aadhaar, a caste certificate if you claim a category, and passport size photographs with signature.
Lay them side by side and write down how your name appears on each. If Aadhaar in English differs from your Bengali spelling, see Aadhaar Bengali and English name mismatch. If your caste certificate is in your maiden name, the marriage certificate covers it.
Keep self-attested copies of everything, and the originals for verification.
Marriage Certificate, Affidavit or Gazette for an Anganwadi Post
The district notices we could see do not list which name change proof they accept. So carry the lightest proof that honestly fits, in original.
A married surname: the marriage certificate. A spelling, initials or word order difference: an affidavit; see one and the same person affidavit. A real change of name: a gazette. Most Anganwadi candidates need no gazette, and we say so even though gazettes are our work.
If a gazette is needed, adults living in West Bengal can use the Kolkata Gazette Part II route: Rs 1,100 on GRIPS and about 7 days after an affidavit before a First Class Judicial Magistrate and two newspaper notices.
