Most WBHRB Staff Nurse posts are for women, and a nurse who marries after her course often has two surnames on her papers. The Board's 2025 advertisement says exactly what a married candidate needs: a marriage registration certificate, or an affidavit before a Judicial or Executive Magistrate about the change of surname. It also wants a full running signature, allows only one application, and lets you edit until the last date. WBHRB Staff Nurse Grade II Recruitment in West Bengal: Advertisement 8/2025
The West Bengal Health Recruitment Board recruits nurses for the state's government hospitals and health centres. Its 2025 advertisement for Staff Nurses, Grade II with Basic and Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing, dated 7 August 2025, offered 2,582 posts, with applications from 13 August to 3 September 2025 and a fee of Rs 210, waived for SC, ST and PWD candidates.
Job sites report that a GNM drive ran alongside it, and that total vacancies were later revised to 5,945.
The advertisement set out selection on academic marks (75), experience (10) and interview (15). Job sites later reported written exams in December 2025 and January 2026. The two do not match, so follow the latest notice on the WBHRB website for your drive.
Essential eligibility includes registration as a Female Nurse and Midwife with the West Bengal Nursing Council, valid on the date of the advertisement, and knowledge of Bengali or Nepali.
WBHRB Rule for Married Women: Marriage Certificate or Magistrate Affidavit
Clause E of the advertisement deals directly with married women whose surname changed. It accepts a marriage registration certificate as proof of marriage, or an affidavit before a Judicial Magistrate or Executive Magistrate about the change of surname.
Note the words carefully. It says a marriage registration certificate, so a priest's or community certificate may not be enough on its own. If your marriage was never registered, the Magistrate affidavit is the other door. If the certificate has a mistake, see marriage certificate correction first.
It also says a Magistrate affidavit, not a notary. A notary affidavit is the wrong document for this clause. See affidavit for name change after marriage.
West Bengal Nursing Council Registration Name and the WBHRB Form
Your West Bengal Nursing Council registration is part of the eligibility, so its name is checked. Many nurses register in their maiden name and marry later. That is normal; the marriage proof above links the two names.
If you want the Council record itself in your married name, ask the West Bengal Nursing Council how it updates a registered name. We do not state its procedure here because we have not seen it in writing. Carry the marriage proof either way.

WBHRB Age Proof: Madhyamik Admit Card, Certificate or Government ID
Clause E accepts the admit card, mark sheet or certificate of Class 10, or any Government ID proof, that shows the candidate's name, father's name and date of birth.
The father's name is part of it. If your Madhyamik admit card and your Aadhaar spell your father's name differently, use the one that matches your form and keep an affidavit for the other. See father name correction if a record really needs fixing.
The age limit is 18 to 39 years, with relaxations for reserved categories.
WBHRB Edit Window and the One Application Rule
Unlike many recruiters, WBHRB lets you edit information and upload documents until the last date; edit mode stays active until final submission. Use that window. Check your name, your father's name and your registration number before the last day.
At the same time, clause K says submission of more than one application is strictly forbidden. Do not open a second form in your married name because the first one was in your maiden name. Edit the first one.
Clause K also says a false statement found later cancels candidature or terminates the appointment, and wilful suppression of a material fact is treated the same. Hiding a second name counts.
WBHRB Signature Rule: Full Running Signature, No Initials
WBHRB asks for a full running signature in blue or black ball point pen on white paper. No short signature or initials will be entertained.
If you changed your name at marriage and now sign a new surname, decide before you upload which signature you will use, and use the same one at verification and joining.
The photograph must be recent, in colour, front facing, with a single colour background and the face covering most of the frame.
When a WBHRB Staff Nurse Needs a Gazette
For a married surname, the advertisement already names the proof, so a gazette is not needed for WBHRB. That is honest advice even though gazettes are our work.
A gazette is the right tool for a real change of first name, a change of surname not caused by marriage, or when another authority later asks for one in writing. Adults living in West Bengal can use the Kolkata Gazette Part II online application, which costs Rs 1,100 on GRIPS and takes about 7 days.
A gazette is supporting proof. It does not change your Madhyamik certificate, nursing certificates or Council registration by itself.
WBHRB Document Verification: What to Carry
Clause J says original certificates of citizenship, age, qualifications, caste and disability must be produced when WBHRB asks for them. That means your Class 10 proof, Higher Secondary mark sheet, B.Sc. Nursing or GNM certificates and mark sheets, Nursing Council registration, and caste certificate if any.
Put the marriage registration certificate or Magistrate affidavit in the same folder, with copies. If your caste certificate is in your maiden name, the marriage proof covers it too; you do not need a new caste certificate just because you married.
Bring the same photo ID you used in the form.
