Taruner Swapna Name Mismatch: Why the Rs 10,000 Tab Money Is Stuck
Under Taruner Swapna, a Class XI or XII student in a government-run school or madrasah gets Rs 10,000 to buy a tablet or smartphone. The money goes by DBT only to a bank account in the student's own name, validated through NPCI. The School Education Department's September 2025 instructions say only a verified account whose name matches the beneficiary is processed. So a student whose Banglar Shiksha record, Aadhaar and passbook spell the name differently can find the payment held up. This page shows how to clear it.

Taruner Swapna Name Mismatch (Quick Answer)
Taruner Swapna money is sent only to a sole bank account in the student's name that NPCI verifies and that matches the beneficiary's name. If the name differs, correct the bank account or Aadhaar, then ask the Headmaster to edit the Banglar Shiksha data with Aadhaar OTP; the Sub-Inspector of Schools approves. The student may also get an SMS to confirm details on the self-declaration portal. No gazette is needed, and correcting a bank name is usually free.

| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Bank account is joint with a parent | Open a sole account in the student's name |
| Passbook spells the name differently | Correct it at the branch |
| Aadhaar spells the name differently | Correct Aadhaar, then update the school |
| Banglar Shiksha record is wrong | Headmaster edits it with Aadhaar OTP |
| SMS says data mismatch | Confirm on the self-declaration portal |
Taruner Swapna: The Rs 10,000 Tab Grant for Class XI and XII Students
The West Bengal government started Taruner Swapna in 2022 to help students study with technology. Class XI and XII students of government-run schools and madrasahs receive Rs 10,000 once, to buy a tablet, smartphone or computer.
The money is paid by direct benefit transfer to the student's bank account, based on data the school uploads to the Banglar Shiksha portal.
In July 2025 the School Education Department tightened the payout process after money had gone to wrong accounts, and in September 2025 it issued operational instructions on bank details.
For Kanyashree, which uses the same school and bank records, see Kanyashree name mismatch.
Taruner Swapna Name Match Rule: Memo 661 of September 2025
The department's memo No. 661-Sc/G/DSE-25025/1/2025-e-Gov SEC-DSE dated 12 September 2025, as reported, says a verified bank account and IFSC matched with the name of the beneficiary will be considered for DBT.
Bank details are sent to NPCI for validation. Once validated, they cannot be edited, so the name must be right before it goes.
In short: the student's name in the school record and the account holder's name in the bank must agree.
Taruner Swapna Bank Account: Sole, Valid and in West Bengal
The instructions say the account must be valid, functional and unique to the student, in the student's own name, at an RBI-approved bank branch within West Bengal. Joint accounts are not allowed.
If the passbook was opened with a short name, initials or a different spelling, ask the branch to correct it with the student's Aadhaar and school certificate; see name correction in a bank account.
A student under 18 may have a minor account; check it is in the student's name as the account holder, not just the parent's.
Student Name on Banglar Shiksha: The Headmaster Corrects It
The Head of the Institution uploads student data to Banglar Shiksha and collects signed verification sheets. If there is a mismatch, the Headmaster can edit the data and forward it to the Sub-Inspector of Schools for approval.
The instructions say the Headmaster updates bank details or edits student information after Aadhaar OTP authentication. So keep the student's Aadhaar-linked mobile handy when you go to school.
If the school register itself spells the name wrongly, ask for that to be corrected too; see name correction in school records.
Taruner Swapna Data Mismatch SMS and the Self-Declaration Portal
Students whose data does not match get an SMS. They then log in to the self-declaration portal with the mobile OTP and their Banglar Shiksha student code, and confirm the details with Aadhaar verification.
Do this only on the official portal, selfdeclaration.wb.gov.in. Do not share OTPs with anyone who calls.
If Aadhaar itself is wrong, correct it first; see name change in Aadhaar.
After the Taruner Swapna Money Arrives: Tab Invoice in the Student's Name
After receiving the money, the student must give the school the original invoice for a tablet or smartphone costing at least Rs 10,000, with the IMEI number. The school uploads it.
Make sure the invoice is in the student's name as the school records it.
No gazette is needed at any step for this scheme.
