What the 2025 WBSSC SLST Rules Say About Your Name and Date of Birth
The 2nd SLST for Assistant Teachers in Classes IX to X and XI to XII was held under the West Bengal School Service Commission (Selection for Appointment to the Posts of Assistant Teachers for Classes IX-X and XI-XII) Rules, 2025, notified on 29 May 2025. It came after the Supreme Court's April 2025 judgment on the 2016 recruitment, and it drew a very large number of candidates.
The notice asked each candidate to enter name, father's or mother's name and date of birth as per the Madhyamik certificate, and age was counted from that date of birth.
The notice also said no corrections would be allowed after the form was submitted. So whatever you type on the form is what the Commission will compare with your certificates at document verification.
Rules and notices can change for each round. Always read the current notice on westbengalssc.com. But the basic logic will not change: the Madhyamik certificate is the anchor, and every other paper must line up with it.
How to Fill Your Name on the WBSSC SLST Application Form
Open your Madhyamik certificate, not your Aadhaar, and copy from it. Your name, your father's or mother's name and your date of birth go on the form exactly as the certificate shows them, letter by letter and in the same order.
This matters even when the Madhyamik spelling looks old or wrong. If your Madhyamik says Sk Abdul Karim, do not write Sheikh Abdul Karim on the form because your degree says so. If it says Chettri, write Chettri. Then bring the other papers in line, or carry proof that links them.

Degree, Post Graduation and B.Ed Certificate Name Mismatch for SLST
Teacher candidates carry more certificates than most job seekers: Higher Secondary, a graduation degree, often a post graduation, and a B.Ed. Each university keeps its own registration record, and that is where most SLST mismatches start. One university wrote initials, another the full name, another a new spelling.
If a degree or B.Ed certificate has a real error against your registration record, write to that university for a correction as early as you can. University corrections usually need your registration certificate, Madhyamik certificate and an application through the college. They take weeks.

Married Women and Surname Change in WBSSC SLST Verification
Many women candidates have their maiden name on the Madhyamik and degree certificates and their married name on the B.Ed, Aadhaar or newer papers. The 2025 notice addressed this: where the name differs because of marriage, the candidate should produce the marriage certificate at document verification.
So keep a clear chain: the Madhyamik name on the form, the marriage certificate showing both names, and, if your papers show more than two versions, an affidavit linking all of them. Caste and OBC Certificate Name Mismatch in SLST
If you applied as SC, ST or OBC, your certificate must carry the same name and father's name as your Madhyamik certificate. A spelling difference in your own name or your father's name is a common reason for a category claim to be questioned.
If the certificate is wrong, ask the SDO office that issued it to correct it. Do not apply for a fresh certificate in a different spelling, because that leaves two genuine certificates in two names. Spelling, Initials and Short Form Differences in SLST Certificates
- Initials: S. K. Das on a degree and Sanjay Kumar Das on Madhyamik.
- Bengali surnames: Chatterjee on one and Chattopadhyay on another.

- Tribal and hill names: Marmu and Murmu, or Chettri and Chhetri.
- Order: surname first on one certificate and last on another.
For these, carry a one and the same person affidavit that lists every version and the certificate carrying it. It does not correct anything, and the Commission decides whether to accept it, but it gives the verifying officer a clear link between the papers.

Your intimation letter lists the exact documents for your round. Expect to need the originals and self-attested copies of:
- Madhyamik admit card or certificate (name, parent's name and date of birth)
- Higher Secondary, graduation and post graduation marksheets and certificates

- Caste, OBC or other category certificate, if claimed
- Teaching experience certificates, if you claim marks for experience

After Appointment: Your Name in the Teacher's Service Book
Once appointed, your name goes into your service book, and that record will follow you through pay, promotion and pension. Make sure it carries the name you will use for life.
If you later change your name, a West Bengal government employee follows the Finance Department rules. A woman taking her husband's surname after marriage, or going back to her maiden name, usually needs only an intimation. Any other change needs a deed, a newspaper notice and a gazette.
