WB Primary TET Application Name Mismatch: Get It Right the First Time
The Primary TET is the first government record on the path to becoming a primary teacher in West Bengal. Whatever name and date of birth you type into the TET form stays with your TET roll number, and later primary teacher recruitment asks for that roll number and date of birth to log you in. A spelling slip here does not stay small. This page shows which name to use, what to fix before you apply, and what to do if a mistake is already in.

WB Primary TET Name Mismatch (Quick Answer)
In the WB Primary TET form, write your name, father's name and date of birth exactly as your Madhyamik admit card or certificate shows them. Before you apply, make your D.El.Ed papers and any caste or OBC certificate carry the same name; corrections at the issuing office are usually free. Check the TET admit card and result the day they come out. Your TET roll number and date of birth are used again in primary teacher recruitment, so a mistake travels. Always follow the WBBPE notice for your year.
| Mismatch | Usual fix |
|---|---|
| TET form name differs from Madhyamik | Avoid it: copy from Madhyamik before you submit |
| D.El.Ed certificate spelling differs | Ask the training institute and its council to correct it |
| Caste or OBC certificate spelling differs | Correct it at the SDO office that issued it |
| Married surname on newer papers | Carry the marriage certificate |
| Initials, short forms or order | One and the same person affidavit |
| Wrong name already on TET admit card or result | Write to WBBPE at once with proof |
About the WB Primary TET and Who Conducts It
The Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for primary teachers in West Bengal is conducted by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE). Passing it makes you eligible to apply when the Board advertises primary teacher posts. It does not by itself give you a job.
The Upper Primary TET is a separate test run by a different body. This page is about the Primary TET only.
Each TET round has its own notice on wbbpe.wb.gov.in. Read it fully, especially the parts on personal particulars, documents and any edit facility. Notices change from round to round, so do not rely on what a friend did in an older year.
Many TET guides online give dates and rules from past rounds. Always check the date on what you are reading.
Which Name and Date of Birth to Use on the Primary TET Form
Copy your name, father's name and date of birth from your Madhyamik admit card or certificate, letter by letter, in the same order. Madhyamik is the oldest board record of your name, and teacher recruitment in West Bengal accepts the Madhyamik admit card or a birth certificate as the age document.
Do not copy from Aadhaar if it spells your name differently. If your Madhyamik paper says Md Rakib Sk, write that, even if Aadhaar says Mohammad Rakib Sheikh. Our page on Md, Mohd and Sk spellings covers these short forms, and name order mismatch covers surname first or last.
Use any Save as Draft and preview step to check every field before you pay and submit.
Why Your TET Record Matters in Primary Teacher Recruitment
When WBBPE opened primary teacher recruitment for 13,421 posts in November 2025, candidates logged in with their TET roll number and date of birth, confirmed by OTP. The TET record was the starting point of the job application.
So if your TET record carries a wrong date of birth, you may not even get past the login. If it carries a wrong spelling, your TET result and your Madhyamik, D.El.Ed and caste papers will not match at verification.
The same recruitment asked candidates to upload their Aadhaar, training marksheet, caste certificate where claimed, and the Madhyamik admit card or birth certificate. Every one of these must point to the same person.
Common Name Mismatches in Primary TET Documents
- Spelling: Mondal and Mandal, Biswas and Bishwas, Hembram and Hembrom.
- Short forms: Md, Mohd and Mohammad; Sk and Sheikh.
- Middle names: Kumar, Chandra, Kumari or Rani present on one paper and missing on another.
- Initials: S. K. Pal on one paper, Swapan Kumar Pal on another.
- Father's name: written one way on the caste certificate and another on Madhyamik.
- Married surname: maiden name on Madhyamik and D.El.Ed, married name on Aadhaar.
None of these is a change of name, and none needs a gazette. Most are explained by a one and the same person affidavit, but it is safer to correct a wrong certificate before you apply than to explain it later.
D.El.Ed and Training Certificate Name Mismatch
Your D.El.Ed (or B.El.Ed) marksheet and certificate are core documents for a primary teacher post. If the name on them differs from your Madhyamik paper, ask your training institute to take up the correction with the council or university that issued the certificate.
Do this as soon as you notice the difference. Certificate corrections take weeks, and recruitment windows are short. Our guide on name change in education documents explains how college and university records are corrected.
Caste and OBC Certificate Name Mismatch for Primary TET
If you claim SC, ST or OBC, your certificate must carry the same name and father's name as your Madhyamik paper. If it does not, get it corrected at the SDO office that issued it. Do not apply for a second certificate in a new spelling; that leaves two genuine certificates in two names.
Our guides on caste certificate correction and father's name correction in a caste certificate have the steps.
Married Women and Surname Change in the Primary TET
If your Madhyamik and D.El.Ed papers carry your maiden name and your Aadhaar carries your married name, use the Madhyamik name on the TET form unless the notice says otherwise, and keep your marriage certificate ready. It links both names at verification.
You do not need a gazette just because you took your husband's surname. If the marriage certificate itself has a mistake, fix it first; see marriage certificate correction.
If Your Name or Date of Birth Is Already Wrong in the TET Record
Check your TET admit card the day it comes out. If the name or date of birth is wrong, write to WBBPE at once with a copy of your Madhyamik admit card or certificate, and keep a copy of your letter with proof of sending. Watch the notice board on wbbpe.wb.gov.in for any edit facility.
We could not find a standing WBBPE procedure for correcting a TET pass certificate after the result. So treat early correction as the only reliable route, and do not assume a later fix will be possible.
If the Board does not correct it, prepare for verification: carry your Madhyamik papers, which show the correct entry, and an affidavit explaining the difference. Whether that is accepted is the recruiting authority's decision. If candidature is refused over a genuine typing error, that is a matter for a lawyer. Free legal aid is available through your District Legal Services Authority.
If You Really Changed Your Name After Madhyamik
If you changed your name by gazette after Class 10, your Madhyamik paper will never match your new name. Ask WBBPE in writing which name to use before you apply, and carry the gazette notification and an affidavit linking both names.
If you need a gazette and do not have one, our gazette name change guide explains the state and central routes. Do not start a name change in the middle of a TET or recruitment round unless you must, because it adds one more version of your name to explain.
Mistakes That Hurt Primary TET Candidates
Copying the name from Aadhaar
Aadhaar spellings often differ from Madhyamik. The board paper is the safer source.
Ignoring the admit card
The admit card is the first time you see your TET record. Check it the day it comes out.
Thinking TET and recruitment are separate
Recruitment uses your TET roll number and date of birth. A TET mistake follows you.
Getting a second caste certificate
Correct the one you have at the issuing office.
Getting a gazette for a spelling slip
A gazette is only for a real change of name. It does not rewrite your TET record.

The West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE). Notices are on wbbpe.wb.gov.in.

Which document is accepted as age proof?
The 2025 recruitment accepted the Madhyamik admit card or a birth certificate. Check the notice for your round.
My TET admit card has a spelling mistake. What should I do?
Write to WBBPE at once with a copy of your Madhyamik paper, keep proof of sending, and watch for any edit facility.

Ask your training institute to take up the correction with the body that issued the certificate, well before recruitment.
My caste certificate has a different spelling. What should I do?

Who can help if my candidature is refused over a name mismatch?
For a challenge, speak to a lawyer. Free legal aid is available through your District Legal Services Authority.
