SSC One Time Registration Name Mismatch: Fix the OTR Once, Every Exam Follows

Every SSC exam, from CGL, CHSL and MTS to GD Constable and CPO, now starts from your One Time Registration (OTR) on ssc.gov.in. Whatever name sits in that profile is copied into every form, admit card and result. SSC has opened OTR edit windows several times since 2025, and they let candidates change the name and date of birth. This page shows what to match, how to use the edit window, and what to carry to document verification.

SSC OTR Name Mismatch (Quick Answer)

In the SSC One Time Registration, enter your name exactly as your Class 10 (Madhyamik) certificate shows it, since that is the paper checked at document verification. If you made a mistake, wait for SSC's OTR edit facility: the windows of August and October 2025 allowed name and date of birth changes. If your name really changed after Class 10, keep a gazette notification ready. Fixing a typo in the OTR is free.

The Portal

What the SSC One Time Registration (OTR) Is and Why the Name Matters

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) moved all applications to its new portal, ssc.gov.in, and made the One Time Registration (OTR) compulsory. You fill your name, date of birth, parents' names, category and education once, and every later SSC form picks them up.

Shiksha lists the exams that run on it: CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD Constable and CPO, among others. So one wrong letter in the OTR repeats across every exam you sit.

Candidates from West Bengal fall under the SSC Eastern Region, whose regional office is in Kolkata. The region handles exam centres, results and document verification for most posts. The name you typed in the OTR is the name that office will compare with your papers.

Many West Bengal candidates also sit state recruitment tests run by WBSSC, which has its own rules; see WBSSC Group C and D name mismatch.

The Window

SSC OTR Edit Windows: When You Can Change Your Name

Unlike UPSC, SSC has repeatedly reopened the OTR for edits. Careers360 reported a window from 19 to 30 June 2025 aimed at OBC and EWS status and education, after many candidates complained they could not change those fields. Oliveboard reported a further edit facility from 14 to 31 August 2025 covering name, date of birth, category and education. Careers360 then reported another opening from 8 October 2025, listing name, date of birth, gender, category, disability, education, contact details and address as editable.

So the name is not locked for good in the SSC OTR, but it can only be changed when SSC opens a window. Watch the notice board on ssc.gov.in.

SSC's June 2025 notice carried a warning worth taking seriously: the window is for genuine corrections only, and changes made without valid reason will be treated as suspicious. Correct a real error. Do not use the window to switch to a different name you have no papers for.

SSC also said physical representations are not considered. For help, Careers360 lists the helpdesk at 1800-309-3063 and helpdesk-ssc@ssc.nic.in.

Before You Apply

Which Paper Your SSC OTR Name Should Match: The Madhyamik Certificate

Match your Class 10 certificate. For most West Bengal candidates that is the Madhyamik certificate from WBBSE; for others CBSE, ICSE or High Madrasah. It is the base record for your name and date of birth, and it is what the regional office checks first at document verification.

Type it exactly: same spelling, same order, same initials. If Madhyamik says Sk. Abdul Rahim, do not type Sheikh Abdul Rahim. See Md, Mohd and Sk spellings.

If the Class 10 certificate itself is wrong, that is a board correction through your school, and boards correct errors only. See marksheet and school certificate correction.

Identity

Aadhaar Face Authentication and the SSC Name

SSC now uses Aadhaar face authentication during the application process. Careers360's report on the October 2025 edit window noted that visually impaired candidates were given an option to bypass it, which tells you everyone else goes through it.

Face authentication checks that you are the Aadhaar holder. It does not by itself fix your SSC name. But if Aadhaar spells your name differently from Class 10, you carry that difference into every exam, every admit card check and every verification.

The clean fix is to correct Aadhaar to match Class 10, using the certificate as proof. Aadhaar allows a name change only twice in a lifetime, so do it once and do it right. See name change in Aadhaar.

Changed Name

Name Changed After Class 10: What SSC Expects

The OTR asks whether you have ever changed your name. If the name you use today is a real change from your Class 10 name, such as a new surname or a different first name, answer yes and give both names.

At document verification you then need proof that both names are you. For a real change of name, that proof is normally a gazette notification. For a small spelling or format difference, an affidavit is often accepted. SSC exam notices set the exact documents, so read the one for your exam.

UPSC is stricter and asks for a gazette in so many words; see UPSC application name mismatch. Plan the same way for SSC if your name has really changed.

Remember: a gazette is supporting proof, not a correction. It does not change your Madhyamik certificate. SSC reads the two together.

Which Route

Kolkata Gazette or Gazette of India for SSC Jobs?

Both routes are open to an adult living in West Bengal. The Kolkata Gazette Part II is quicker, about 7 days, done online. The Gazette of India Part IV takes 30 to 45 days and is recognised by every central department.

SSC posts are central government jobs. If you have time, the central gazette avoids any argument later at joining or in your service book. If a verification date is close, the state gazette is faster. See gazette name change in West Bengal for both routes.

Verification

SSC Document Verification Name Mismatch: What to Carry

At document verification, the office puts your OTR details, admit card and result beside your originals: Class 10 certificate, higher qualification, caste or EWS certificate, and photo ID.

Carry every original and two sets of copies. Where any paper spells your name differently, carry the linking proof: an affidavit for a format difference, a gazette for a real change, a marriage certificate for a married name. See one and the same person affidavit.

Check that your caste or EWS certificate carries the same name as Class 10. In West Bengal these are issued by the SDO, and a wrong spelling there can cost you the reserved seat even when everything else is right.
