GDS Application Name Mismatch: Your Class 10 Marksheet Is the Only Yardstick
There is no exam for Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS). The merit list is made from your Class 10 marks, and the India Post notification says every detail must be entered strictly as per the Class X marksheet. If the name, father's name, mother's name or date of birth do not match, candidature may get cancelled. For Madhyamik students there is a catch: the WBBSE marksheet does not print a date of birth. This page shows what to match, what to carry, and how to fix it before document verification.

GDS Name Mismatch (Quick Answer)
For India Post GDS, enter your name, father's name, mother's name and date of birth exactly as your Class 10 marksheet shows them. The notification warns that a mismatch with the matriculation certificate can cancel your candidature. The Schedule-II, July 2026 edit window ran on 23 and 24 September 2026 and is closed. If you missed an error, carry the Class 10 pass certificate and an affidavit to verification. An affidavit costs about Rs 50 to Rs 300.

| Problem | Usual fix |
|---|---|
| Typing mistake in name on the GDS form | Edit window if open; otherwise affidavit at verification |
| Madhyamik marksheet has no date of birth | Carry the Madhyamik pass certificate as DOB proof |
| Aadhaar spelling differs from Class 10 | Use another ID that matches, or correct Aadhaar |
| Married name differs from Class 10 | Apply in the Class 10 name; carry the marriage certificate |
| Class 10 marksheet itself is wrong | Board correction through your school |
India Post GDS Recruitment in West Bengal Circle: BPM, ABPM and Dak Sevak
Gramin Dak Sevaks run branch post offices and deliver mail in villages: Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak. The Department of Posts fills these posts through online engagement schedules on indiapostgdsonline.gov.in.
The official notification for Schedule-II, July 2026 set these dates: one time registration from 31 August to 19 September 2026, applications and fee from 2 to 21 September, and corrections on 23 and 24 September 2026 up to 5 PM. Adda247 and others report 23,757 posts across India in this schedule.
For the West Bengal Circle, the notification lists the local language as Bengali or Nepali, with Nepali for the hill areas. You must have studied that language up to at least Class 10.
The fee is Rs 100, and women, SC, ST, PwBD and transwomen candidates are exempt. There is no written test. The merit list comes straight from your Class 10 marks, rounded to a percentage.
GDS Rule: Name and Details Strictly as per the Class 10 Marksheet
Para 8(xii) of the notification is plain: enter all details such as name, date of birth, father's name and mother's name strictly as per the SSC (Class X) marksheet.
Annexure-II then warns that candidature may get cancelled if the candidate name, father's name, mother's name, date of birth and other details do not match what is recorded in the matriculation certificate.
So the GDS form is not the place to use your preferred spelling, your married name or the spelling on Aadhaar. Copy the marksheet letter by letter, including initials and short forms like Md. or Sk.. See Md, Mohd and Sk spellings.
Because GDS selection is by marks alone, many candidates sit close together on the merit list. A name problem at verification can hand your seat to the next person.
Madhyamik Marksheet Has No Date of Birth: What GDS Candidates Should Do
Here West Bengal candidates face a problem others do not. The WBBSE Madhyamik marksheet does not print a date of birth; only the pass certificate carries it. The GDS notification asks for details as per the Class X marksheet, and lists a date of birth proof separately among documents for verification.
Enter your date of birth exactly as your Madhyamik pass certificate shows it, and carry that certificate to verification along with the marksheet. Together they cover every field the form asks for.
If your pass certificate and Aadhaar show different dates of birth, the board record wins for GDS. See date of birth correction in West Bengal before you try to change either.
GDS Edit Window: Two Days, Then the Form Locks
The notification allows registration details to be edited during the application stage, and gives a separate two-day window after the last date. For Schedule-II, July 2026, that window was 23 to 24 September 2026. PW reports that name, date of birth, Class 10 details and circle preference could be changed in it.
Two fields never change: the mobile number and email ID. The notification says these cannot be modified under any circumstances, so use a number you will keep.
If the window has closed with an error still on your form, you cannot reopen it. India Post runs several schedules a year, so the next schedule is your chance to apply again correctly. For this one, carry linking proof to verification.
Father's and Mother's Name Mismatch in the GDS Application
GDS checks your parents' names too. Many West Bengal marksheets carry the father's name only with initials, or with a surname spelt differently from his own documents. That is fine: type it exactly as the marksheet prints it.
The mismatch to worry about is between your form and your marksheet, not between your marksheet and your father's Aadhaar. If verification staff ask about a difference in your parents' names across papers, a short affidavit usually settles it. See one and the same person affidavit.
Identity Proof and Aadhaar for GDS Verification
The notification lists identity proof among verification documents but does not insist on Aadhaar. Carry an ID whose name matches your Class 10 marksheet, such as a voter ID, PAN or passport, if Aadhaar does not.
If you want Aadhaar to match, correct it with the Madhyamik certificate as proof. Aadhaar allows a name change only twice in a lifetime. See name change in Aadhaar.
Candidates from Darjeeling and Kalimpong often find Nepali names transliterated differently on Aadhaar and school papers. See Nepali name spelling in documents.
GDS for Married Women: Maiden Name on the Marksheet
Many women who apply for GDS are married, with the Class 10 marksheet in the maiden name. The rule is the same: apply in the marksheet name.
The notification gives no special route for married names. Carry your marriage certificate to verification so the officer can link your marksheet name with any ID in your married name. No gazette is needed for this.
GDS Document Verification: Papers West Bengal Candidates Should Carry
Para 9(ii) lists the documents: marks sheet, identity proof, caste certificate, PwBD certificate, EWS certificate, transgender certificate, date of birth proof, a medical certificate from a government hospital doctor, and a certificate of knowledge of local dialects where needed.
Check each one for the same spelling as your marksheet. A caste or EWS certificate in a different spelling is a common problem in West Bengal; correct it through the SDO before verification. See name change in caste certificate.
Carry originals and two sets of self-attested copies, plus the Madhyamik pass certificate for date of birth.
When Your Class 10 Marksheet Itself Is Wrong
If the Madhyamik marksheet carries a wrong spelling, GDS still wants the form to match it. That is uncomfortable, but it is the rule. Apply in the marksheet spelling and fix the marksheet later.
WBBSE corrects errors through your school, using the admission register as proof. It can take one to two months. See marksheet and school certificate correction.
Applying for central jobs too? SSC uses a single profile for all its exams; see SSC One Time Registration name mismatch.
