Polytechnic Diploma Certificate Name Correction in West Bengal
Diplomas from West Bengal's polytechnics are issued by the West Bengal State Council of Technical and Vocational Education and Skill Development (WBSCTVESD), through its Technical Education Division. When the name on a diploma registration certificate, semester marksheet or pass certificate is wrong, the correction is made by the Council, not the polytechnic, and the Council has published both the fee and the proof it wants. This page explains the free three-month window after registration, the Rs 300 per document fee after that, why the Madhyamik admit card decides your name, where to apply, and how to keep the diploma in line with your other records for jobs and lateral entry.

Who Corrects a Polytechnic Diploma Certificate in West Bengal
Your polytechnic teaches you, but it does not issue your diploma. The West Bengal State Council of Technical and Vocational Education and Skill Development (WBSCTVESD) registers students, conducts semester examinations through its Technical Education Division, and issues the registration certificate, marksheets and pass certificate.
So only the Council can correct the name on those documents. The polytechnic can help you fill in the application and confirm its own admission record, but the request is decided at the Council.
The Council's published fee list (revised with effect from 1 January 2020) names Kolkata Karigori Bhavan, 2nd Floor, 110 S. N. Banerjee Road, Kolkata 700013 as the place to submit correction applications.
The Free 3-Month Window After Your Registration Certificate
The Council charges Rs 300 per document for a name or particulars correction, but it waives the fee if you apply within three months of the registration certificate being issued.
That is a strong reason to check your registration certificate the week you receive it, in the first semester. Compare the spelling letter by letter with your Madhyamik admit card and Aadhaar.
A correction made at registration stage flows into every marksheet and the final pass certificate. A correction made after you pass means paying for each document and waiting for reprints.
Why Your Madhyamik Admit Card Decides the Name on Your Diploma
The Council asks for one main document with a correction application: a photocopy of your Madhyamik or other Class 10 admit card. That admit card carries your name and date of birth as the school board recorded them.
So the Council corrects your diploma to match your Class 10 record, not your Aadhaar. If Aadhaar has a different spelling, the diploma will still follow Class 10.
If the Class 10 record itself is wrong, fix it first with the school board, then the diploma. See Madhyamik marksheet name correction. For a CBSE or ICSE student, see CBSE and ICSE marksheet name correction.
How to Apply for Diploma Name Correction at the Council
Write a short application to the Technical Education Division with your name as printed, the correct name, your registration number, polytechnic and course. Attach a photocopy of your Madhyamik admit card, a copy of each document to be corrected, and your ID.
Pay the fee through SBI Collect if you are outside the three-month window: Rs 300 for each document you want corrected. Keep the payment receipt with your application copy.
Submit the application offline at the Council's office in Karigori Bhavan, S. N. Banerjee Road, or through your polytechnic if it forwards such requests. Ask for a receiving stamp, and collect the corrected documents as the Council directs.
Lost Diploma Documents With a Wrong Name
If you have lost a registration certificate, marksheet, proficiency certificate, pass certificate or admit card, the Council issues a duplicate for Rs 500 per document, paid on SBI Collect, against the original General Diary (GD) from the police station.
If the lost document also had a wrong name, ask for the correction at the same time, so you do not pay for a duplicate that is still wrong. Make sure the GD itself names you correctly; see wrong name in an FIR or GD.
The Council also lists Rs 250 for a migration certificate and Rs 1,500 for a first transcript. Check the current list before paying.
Diploma Name and Lateral Entry to B.Tech
Diploma holders in West Bengal often join the second year of B.Tech through lateral entry. The engineering college and university will register you in the name on your diploma.
If the diploma and Class 10 spellings differ, you may carry the mismatch into your degree too. Correct the diploma first, or at least carry an affidavit linking the names. See degree certificate name correction.
For the migration certificate needed to move to a university, see migration certificate name correction.
Diploma Name Mismatch in Jobs and Apprenticeships
Junior engineer posts, railway and PSU recruitment, and apprenticeships all check the diploma against your Class 10 certificate and Aadhaar. A different spelling can stop document verification.
For examples from West Bengal employers, see WBSEDCL recruitment name mismatch and CLW apprentice name mismatch.
Fill every job form in the Class 10 spelling, and carry an affidavit for any other spelling you cannot correct in time; see one and the same person affidavit.
