Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) Act Apprentices in West Bengal
Chittaranjan Locomotive Works builds electric locomotives for Indian Railways at Chittaranjan, on the West Bengal and Jharkhand border in Paschim Bardhaman. Each year it notifies seats for Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961, on its own website, clw.indianrailways.gov.in.
Job sites listed the latest CLW notice as 615 seats for Class 10, Class 12 and ITI pass candidates, with a last date of 2 January 2026, and later reported merit lists for ITI holders and freshers. Check the CLW website for the current notice, since we could not open the CLW PDF ourselves.

Railway Apprentice Rule: Particulars Must Match the Matriculation Certificate
Railway Act Apprentice notices follow a common pattern. Eastern Railway's notice for 2025-26, which we read in full, says in clause 7(iii) that the particulars, including spellings, must match the details in the Matriculation certificate, such as name, father's name and date of birth.
Clause 5(i) of the same notice warns that if a candidate fills wrong details, the candidature will be cancelled as soon as the discrepancy comes to notice.
CLW's own notice may word this differently, but expect the same rule. Read its general instructions before you start, and keep your Class 10 certificate open beside the screen as you type.
Date of Birth for CLW Apprentices: No Affidavit Accepted
Railway notices are blunt about age. The Eastern Railway notice counts age only from the Matriculation certificate or a birth certificate from a government authority, and says no other document, such as a horoscope, affidavit, municipal birth extract or service record, will be accepted.
For Madhyamik students this needs care: the WBBSE marksheet does not print a date of birth; the pass certificate does. Use the date on the pass certificate and carry it.

No Correction After Final Submission of the Apprentice Form
Clause 8(ii) of the Eastern Railway notice says that after final submission, no candidate will be allowed any correction or alteration online. Railway apprentice forms rarely open a correction window.
So a typing slip in your name or father's name is costly. Before you press final submit, check every letter against the Class 10 certificate, then save the PDF of the form.
If you find a mistake after submission, write to the office named in the notice with your Class 10 certificate. Do not count on it being accepted; the safer course is to apply correctly in the next year's notice.
How CLW and Railway Apprentice Merit Is Worked Out: Class 10 and ITI Marks
The Eastern Railway notice explains merit in clause 5(iii): it is the average of the percentage of marks in Matriculation and in the ITI, with equal weight. Its own example: 80.58 percent in Class 10 and 91.68 percent in ITI gives a merit score of 86.13 percent. Where two candidates tie, the older one is preferred.
That is why both the Class 10 marksheet and the ITI marksheet must clearly be yours. If the two carry different names, the office has to be satisfied they belong to one person before your marks count.
For freshers' seats that need only Class 10 or Class 12, merit comes from those marks instead, as the notice for that category says.
ITI Certificate and Class 10 Name Mismatch for CLW
ITI certificates are often typed from admission forms, and spellings drift: Kr. for Kumar, a missing middle name, or a Hindi spelling against a Bengali one. The form follows the Matriculation certificate, so the ITI paper is the one that will look different.

Father's Name Mismatch in the CLW Apprentice Form
Railway notices list father's name among the particulars that must match the Matriculation certificate. Many West Bengal certificates print the father's name with initials, or with a surname his own papers spell differently. Type it as the certificate prints it.

CLW Apprentice Document Verification: What to Carry
Carry the original Class 10 marksheet and pass certificate, Class 12 or ITI marksheets and certificates as your category needs, caste, EWS or PwBD certificate if claimed, a photo ID, and the printout of your online form.
Check that the caste or EWS certificate carries your Class 10 spelling. Railway notices reject applications where such certificates are missing or not from the proper authority.
For any spelling difference on these papers, carry an affidavit. For a married woman's surname, carry the marriage certificate.
When Your Class 10 Certificate Itself Is Wrong
If the Madhyamik certificate misspells your name or your father's name, the railway form must still follow it. Apply in that spelling, and correct the board record before the next notice if you can.
