SAIL, IISCO and Durgapur Steel Plant Recruitment Name Mismatch: Matriculation Name, Plus Proof
The Steel Authority of India (SAIL) runs its West Bengal plants in Paschim Bardhaman, including Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) and IISCO Steel Plant (ISP) at Burnpur, Asansol. Their recruitment notices ask you to write your name as it appears in the Matriculation certificate. If your name has changed, they ask for an original gazette, marriage certificate or affidavit. This page shows which one you need, and what ITI apprentices applying through NAPS should check.

SAIL Recruitment Name Mismatch (Quick Answer)
For SAIL, DSP and IISCO jobs, write your name exactly as your Class 10 (Matriculation) certificate shows it. If you use a different name now, SAIL's DSP advertisement accepts an original gazette notification, original marriage certificate or original affidavit as proof. A married woman usually needs only the marriage certificate; a spelling difference, an affidavit costing about Rs 50 to Rs 300.

| Your situation | Proof to carry |
|---|---|
| Married woman using husband's surname | Original marriage certificate |
| Spelling or format differs from Class 10 | Original affidavit |
| Real change of name (new first name, new surname) | Original gazette notification |
| ITI and Class 10 spell the name differently | Affidavit, and correct the ITI record if you can |
| Class 10 certificate itself is wrong | Board correction through your school |
SAIL Steel Plants in West Bengal: Durgapur Steel Plant and IISCO Burnpur
SAIL is a central public sector company. In West Bengal it runs the Durgapur Steel Plant, the IISCO Steel Plant at Burnpur near Asansol, and the Alloy Steels Plant at Durgapur. Each plant publishes its own recruitment notices on sailcareers.com, alongside SAIL's company-wide drives such as Management Trainee.
Recent notices include an IISCO advertisement of 22 May 2026 for Young Professionals, reported as 48 posts across DSP, ISP and ASP, and an IISCO notice for 200 trade apprentices with applications open from 28 September to 7 October 2026.
Executive, non-executive and apprentice routes differ in tests and documents, but they share one name rule: the Class 10 certificate is the base record.
If you live in the Durgapur and Asansol belt, see name change help in Paschim Bardhaman for local courts and offices.
SAIL Rule: Write Your Name as in the Matriculation Certificate
DSP's recruitment advertisement of 3 January 2024 (Advt. No. DSP/Pers/Rectt/2023-24/DR(det)) says in plain words that a candidate must write the name as it appears in the Matriculation certificate or equivalent examination.
The same advertisement lists the grounds for rejection at any stage, including false information, not meeting eligibility, and failing to produce valid documentary proof. A name that does not match, with no proof to link it, falls under the last one.
Each SAIL notice is its own document, so read the general instructions of the one you apply to. Expect the same Matriculation rule, but confirm it in the notice you apply to.
Gazette, Marriage Certificate or Affidavit: What SAIL Accepts
The DSP advertisement is unusually clear on this. Where a candidate's name has changed, it asks for the original gazette notification, or the original marriage certificate, or an affidavit in original.
That list matters, because many candidates assume a gazette is always needed. It is not. Use the lightest proof that honestly fits your case:
A married woman who took her husband's surname needs the marriage certificate. A spelling or format difference, such as initials or a dropped middle name, needs an affidavit; see one and the same person affidavit. A real change of name, such as a new first name, needs a gazette.
All three must be originals, so keep the original affidavit and certificate safe and carry them to every stage.
SAIL Recruitment for Married Women: Maiden Name on Class 10
If your Class 10 certificate is in your maiden name and you now use your married name, apply in the Class 10 name and carry your original marriage certificate. That is enough under the DSP rule; no gazette is needed for this.
Check the marriage certificate itself before you rely on it. If it spells your name or your husband's name wrongly, it will not link the two names cleanly. Corrections are made only by the registering office; see marriage certificate correction.
IISCO Trade Apprentice 2026 Through NAPS: Name Checks
The IISCO Steel Plant notice for 200 trade apprentices, reported by GovtJobs, runs through the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) portal under establishment code E03171900012. Applications were open from 28 September to 7 October 2026, and selection is on ITI marks in your trade and category.
Register on NAPS in the name your ITI certificate and Matriculation certificate share. The notice lists the original ITI certificate and marksheets, the matriculation certificate, an ID proof and category certificates for verification.
An apprenticeship does not give a right to a regular SAIL job, the notice says. But the name you train under goes on your apprenticeship certificate, which you will show to later employers. Get it right now.
ITI Certificate and Class 10 Name Mismatch for SAIL Trade Jobs
ITI certificates in West Bengal are often typed from admission forms, and spellings drift from the Class 10 record. If your ITI certificate and Madhyamik certificate disagree, the apprentice merit list will use your ITI marks while verification checks both papers.
For a small difference, carry an affidavit linking both. For a wrong spelling on the ITI certificate, ask your ITI how to correct it before you need the certificate again. If the Madhyamik certificate is the wrong one, it goes through your school to the board; see marksheet and school certificate correction.
SAIL Interview and Document Verification: What to Carry
The DSP advertisement asks for original certificates at the interview, skill test or trade test and at later stages. Carry your Class 10 certificate (for name and date of birth), qualification certificates, caste or EWS certificate, ID proof, and the original proof for any name difference.
Check that your caste or EWS certificate matches the Class 10 spelling. In West Bengal these come from the SDO, and a spelling slip there can cost you a reserved seat.
Applying to Coal India or ECL too? Their rule is stricter, with no edit after you submit; see Coal India and ECL recruitment name mismatch.
When You Need a Gazette for a SAIL Job
You need a gazette only for a real change of name that a marriage certificate or affidavit cannot explain: a different first name, adding or dropping a surname for reasons other than marriage, or a changed name you now use on every paper.
For an adult in West Bengal, the Kolkata Gazette Part II is the quicker route and the Gazette of India the central one. See gazette name change in West Bengal for both. Bring the original gazette copy, as the advertisement asks.
A gazette is supporting proof, not a correction. It does not change your Class 10 certificate. SAIL reads the two together.
