ITI Certificate Name Correction in West Bengal
An ITI certificate is the paper that gets you into apprenticeships at Chittaranjan, Durgapur or Garden Reach, and into technician jobs across the country. Most ITI trainees in West Bengal hold a National Trade Certificate (NTC) under NCVT, generated online by the Directorate General of Training (DGT). When the name on it is wrong, the ITI cannot simply retype it. Since late 2025 the correction runs as a grievance on the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) portal, approved step by step by the ITI, the state and DGT. How to Correct a Name in an ITI Certificate (Quick Answer)
For NCVT trainees admitted from 2014 onward, raise a profile correction grievance on the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) portal through your ITI. It is approved by the ITI, then the state, then DGT, after which the corrected certificate is regenerated. Attach your Class 10 certificate, which is the name the ITI record should match. For pre-2014 certificates, DGT said in December 2025 that a correction facility was planned on SIDH; ask your ITI whether it is open.

NCVT or SCVT: Which ITI Certificate Do You Have?
Look at the top of your certificate. A National Trade Certificate (NTC) is issued under the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) and generated online by the Directorate General of Training (DGT), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Most government and private ITIs in West Bengal teach NCVT trades.
A State Trade Certificate is issued under the state council (SCVT) for trades affiliated only to the state. In West Bengal, vocational and state-level certification sits with the West Bengal State Council of Technical and Vocational Education and Skill Development.
The route depends on which one you hold. Most of this page is about NCVT, because that is where most ITI certificates in the state come from.
How NCVT Name Correction Works on the Skill India Digital Hub
The old NCVT MIS portal has moved to the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH). A DGT order dated 23 December 2025 (File No. DGT-11/2025-ITCell) says that profile corrections such as name, date of birth, father's name and mother's name are available for CTS trainees admitted from 2014 onward, through the grievance module on SIDH.
The grievance moves in a fixed chain: your nodal ITI raises or verifies it, the state approves it, and DGT gives final approval. After approval the corrected documents are regenerated; DGT expected regeneration within 10 to 15 days of approval.
In practice you go to your ITI with your documents, and the ITI's portal login raises the grievance. Ask for the grievance number and track it with the ITI until the corrected e-NTC can be downloaded.
Documents to Give Your ITI for a Name Correction
The DGT order does not list documents, so the ITI and state decide what they need. In practice, give a short written application, your Class 10 certificate and marksheet, Aadhaar, your ITI admission form copy, and the certificate or marksheet with the wrong name.
The ITI will compare your request with its admission record. If the ITI typed the name wrong from a correct admission form, the correction is straightforward. If your admission form itself was filled with a wrong spelling, expect more questions.
Keep copies of everything and note the date you submitted. The approval goes through three offices, so a written trail helps when you follow up.
ITI Certificates Issued Before 2014 (Legacy NTC)
Trainees admitted before 2014 hold legacy certificates, many of them printed on paper before the online system existed. DGT says legacy e-NTC generation for pre-2014 admissions is working on SIDH.
Correction of legacy certificates was, in the December 2025 order, expected to be made available on SIDH by 31 January 2026. Ask your ITI whether the legacy correction facility is now open before you plan anything else.

State (SCVT) ITI Certificate Name Correction in West Bengal
For a state trade certificate, the request goes through your ITI to the state council that issued it, not to DGT. Ask the ITI for the current form and fee.
Expect the same basic rule: the certificate is corrected to match your Class 10 record and the ITI's admission register, with proof attached.

Why Your ITI Name Should Match Your Class 10 Certificate
Every recruiter and apprenticeship board checks the ITI certificate against your Class 10 (Matriculation) certificate. That is the name to aim for, not Aadhaar, unless Class 10 itself is wrong.

Common gaps are Kr. for Kumar, a missing middle name, and Hindi against Bengali spellings. These are best fixed once, in the ITI record, rather than explained again at every interview.
