WBJEE Application Name Correction: Five Fields You Cannot Edit Later

Every year students open the WBJEE correction window to fix a spelling, and find the name field greyed out. The WBJEE bulletin is clear: once submitted, your name, father's name, mother's name, domicile and date of birth cannot be changed under any circumstances. The rest of the form can be corrected. This page shows what to copy your name from, what to fix before you register, and what to do if a mistake is already in.

WBJEE Application Name Correction (Quick Answer)

In the WBJEE application, your name, father's name, mother's name, domicile and date of birth cannot be edited after submission, not even in the correction window. Copy them exactly from your Class 10 admit card, and make your domicile and category certificates match before you register. Other fields can be corrected in the window, free of charge in 2026. Do not file a second application. The allotted institute checks your papers at admission.

The Rule

The Five WBJEE Fields You Cannot Correct After Submission

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) runs WBJEE for engineering, pharmacy and related courses in the state. Its information bulletin says that once the registration details, that is name, father's name, mother's name, domicile and date of birth, are entered and submitted, they cannot be changed, modified or edited under any circumstances. The 2025 and 2026 bulletins use the same words.

This is stricter than many people expect. The correction window that opens after registration does not reach these five fields. In 2026 the window ran from 10 to 12 April, and the news reports of it listed the same five fields as not editable.

So the real correction happens before you press submit. Treat the registration step as final for these five lines.

Before You Register

Which Document to Copy Your Name From in WBJEE

The bulletin says your details must match exactly with your school admit cards, marksheets, certificates, photo identity cards and caste, category or income certificates, which you will show at the exam hall, at counselling and at university registration.

The safest source is your Madhyamik or Class 10 admit card. It is the oldest board record of your name, parents' names and date of birth, and every later document is checked against it.

Copy letter by letter, in the same order. If the admit card says Md Arif Sk, do not type Mohammad Arif Sheikh because Aadhaar says so. If it carries a middle name like Kumar or Chandra, keep it.

Then look at every other paper you will need. Where one differs, fix that paper before registration, or plan to carry proof that links them. Our page on name order and format mismatch explains the common format cases.

Correction Window

What the WBJEE Correction Window Can Fix

During the correction period, you can log in and change the other parts of the form. Reports of the 2026 window listed personal details other than the locked ones, academic details, address, mobile number and email, examination centre choices, and the photo and signature.

Corrections were free in 2026, except where a candidate who paid a concession fee moved to the general category and had to pay the difference. The window is short, usually a few days, so watch wbjeeb.nic.in for the dates in your year.

If your photo or signature upload is wrong, fix it here. It does not need any affidavit.

Already Wrong

If Your Name or Date of Birth Is Already Wrong in WBJEE

First, see how big the difference is. A missing initial or one wrong letter is very different from a wrong date of birth or a different father's name.

Do not file a second application to fix it. The bulletin says plainly: do not attempt to make any duplicate application.

Write to WBJEEB through the contact details in the bulletin for your year, explain the error, and keep a copy. The bulletin does not promise a fix, so be ready for the answer to be no. Then prepare for verification: carry the Class 10 admit card, which shows the correct entry, and a one and the same person affidavit that links the two spellings. Whether that is accepted is the institute's decision.

A wrong date of birth or domicile is more serious, because eligibility can depend on them. If a seat or rank is cancelled over a genuine typing error, that is a matter for a lawyer. Free legal aid is available through your District Legal Services Authority.

Admission

WBJEE Counselling and Document Verification by the Institute

Many students think that if the admit card or rank card printed their details, the Board has approved them. The bulletin warns against this: the allotted institute does all verifications during and after counselling and admission, and candidates should not assume the Board has approved their personal details.

The bulletin also says that if a claim is found invalid at verification, the category, rank or admission may be revoked, and that wrong information or missing documents may make a candidate ineligible for the seat.

Carry originals and copies of your Class 10 admit card and certificate, Class 12 marksheet, rank card, domicile certificate, and category certificate if you claimed one. Put any linking papers, like a marriage certificate or an affidavit, on top.

Certificates

Domicile and Category Certificate Name Mismatch in WBJEE

Domicile is one of the five locked fields, and your domicile certificate must carry the same name and father's name as your form. The certificate is issued on eDistrict as a Local Residence Certificate, free. If yours has a spelling error, correct it before you register. Our guide on domicile certificate correction has the steps, and father's name correction in a domicile certificate covers the most common error.

If you claim SC, ST, OBC or EWS, that certificate must match too. Get a wrong one corrected at the office that issued it; do not apply for a second certificate in a new spelling. See caste certificate correction and OBC certificate correction.

Parents' Names

Father's Name and Mother's Name Mistakes in WBJEE

Both parents' names are locked fields, and they are where mistakes hide. A mother's name may appear with her maiden surname on one paper and her married surname on another. A father may be Sk Abdul on the admit card and Sheikh Abdul on the domicile certificate.

Use the parents' names exactly as your Class 10 admit card shows them. If another certificate differs, fix that certificate first. Our pages on father's name correction and mother's name correction explain which office corrects which paper.

Watch For These

Common Name Spelling Problems in WBJEE Applications

  • Bengali spellings in English: Chatterjee and Chattopadhyay, Banerjee and Bandyopadhyay, Mondal and Mandal.
  • Short forms: Md, Mohd and Mohammad; Sk and Sheikh.
  • Middle names: Kumar, Chandra, Kumari or Rani present on one paper and missing on another.
  • Initials: S. K. Das on one paper, Sanjay Kumar Das on another.
  • Aadhaar spelling: different from the Class 10 admit card, and typed into the form by habit.

None of these is a change of name, and none needs a gazette. They need a careful form and, where papers differ, a linking affidavit. Our guide on Md, Mohd and Sk spellings covers the short forms.

Avoid These

Mistakes That Cost WBJEE Candidates Their Seat

❌

Copying the name from Aadhaar

Aadhaar spellings often differ from the Class 10 admit card. The board record is safer.

❌

Waiting for the correction window

The window cannot change name, parents' names, date of birth or domicile.

❌

Filing a second application

The bulletin tells candidates not to make a duplicate application.

❌

Trusting the rank card

The institute verifies your papers. A printed rank card is not approval.

❌

Getting a gazette for a spelling slip

A gazette does not change your WBJEE record or your certificates. It is only for a real change of name.
