Personal Loan Name Mismatch in West Bengal
A personal loan application is checked by machines before any person sees it. The lender matches your name on PAN with the Income Tax database, on Aadhaar through e-KYC, on your bank statement, your salary slip and your credit report. If one of them says "Sk. Rafiq" and another "Rafique Sheikh", the application can be rejected or sent for manual review, and the money can only go to an account in your own name. This page explains which mismatches lenders care about, what to fix before you apply, and how to stay clear of fake loan apps that prey on rejected applicants.

How to Avoid a Personal Loan Rejection for Name Mismatch (Quick Answer)
Before you apply, make your name the same on PAN, Aadhaar and the bank account the loan will be paid into. Lenders check PAN first, then Aadhaar e-KYC, then the bank and salary records. Under RBI's Digital Lending Directions, 2025, the loan must be paid directly into your own account. If an old document cannot be changed, keep a one and the same person affidavit ready.
| What the lender checks | If it does not match |
|---|---|
| PAN name against the tax database | Correct PAN; the number stays |
| Aadhaar e-KYC or video KYC | Correct Aadhaar or use PAN-matching form |
| Bank account for disbursal and EMI | Update the bank name to match PAN |
| Salary slip or employer letter | Ask HR to correct; give an affidavit meanwhile |
| Credit report names | Old names are normal; dispute wrong data |
How Banks and Loan Apps Check Your Name
For a personal loan, most lenders run the same checks within minutes. PAN is verified against the tax department's records. Aadhaar is checked through e-KYC or a video KYC call. Your bank statement is read for salary credits. Your credit report is pulled by PAN.
Each check returns a name. Software compares them and flags differences. A small difference, such as a middle name present in one and missing in another, may pass. A different surname, initials against full names, or a Bengali and English spelling gap may stop the application or send it for manual review.
Manual review is not refusal. But it is slower, and some app-based lenders simply decline rather than review.
Make PAN and Aadhaar Match Before You Apply
PAN is the anchor for lending, because it ties your credit report, tax record and bank KYC together. If your PAN has an old or wrong name, correct it; the number does not change. See name correction in PAN card.
Aadhaar is used for e-KYC and e-signing the loan agreement. If Aadhaar and PAN differ, fix whichever is wrong; see PAN and Aadhaar name mismatch.
Do this before applying. Every rejected application leaves an enquiry on your credit report, and several in a short time look bad to the next lender.
The Account the Loan Is Paid Into Must Be in Your Name
RBI's Digital Lending Directions, 2025, issued on 8 May 2025, say loan disbursals and repayments must flow directly between the borrower's bank account and the lender's, with only narrow exceptions. The account must be yours, and its name will be checked.
Your EMI mandate, the e-NACH or auto-debit, is also set up on that account and also checks the name. If the bank holds an older spelling, update it at the branch first; see name correction in bank account.
Once the bank name is right, UPI and other systems show it correctly too; see UPI name mismatch.
Salary Slips and Employer Records in Another Name
Salaried applicants send salary slips or an employer letter. Payroll often carries a name from the joining form, which may be years old.
Ask HR to update payroll with your PAN and Aadhaar name. Until it changes, a one and the same person affidavit explaining the difference helps the lender's manual review; see one and the same person affidavit.
For a business owner, the bank statements and Udyam or GST registration should carry the same name too.
Existing Loans in an Old or Maiden Name
If you took a loan before marriage, it stays in that name until closed. You do not need to rename it. It is linked to your PAN, so it shows in your credit report anyway.
When applying for a new loan in your new name, tell the lender about the old one and show the link, a marriage certificate or affidavit. Hiding it causes more trouble than the name difference.
For how your credit report treats several names, see CIBIL credit report name mismatch.
Name Rejections and Fake Loan Apps
People rejected by banks for a name mismatch are prime targets for fake loan apps that promise instant money "without documents". They then demand advance fees, steal contact lists, or harass borrowers.
Under the 2025 directions, lenders must report their digital lending apps to RBI, and RBI publishes a list of apps run by or for regulated lenders. Check any app against that list. A genuine lender gives you a Key Fact Statement before you sign and a cooling-off period of at least one day to exit without penalty.
Never pay a fee to get a loan approved, and never pay anyone to "fix" your CIBIL score.
