Banglar Bari and Awas Yojana Name Mismatch in West Bengal

West Bengal's rural housing grant has had several names. Families first knew it as Indira Awas, then Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), then the state-funded Banglar Bari from December 2024, and since 2026 Paschim Banga Awas. Whatever the name, the money reaches a family only if the name in the beneficiary list matches Aadhaar, the bank account and, often, the land record where the house is built. This page explains where housing scheme names go wrong, what to fix before an instalment is due, how land and job card records fit in, and why the recent checks on ineligible beneficiaries make a clean paper trail more important than ever.

Banglar Bari or Awas Yojana Name Mismatch (Quick Answer)

Housing instalments are paid only when the beneficiary list, Aadhaar and bank account show the same person. If they differ, update Aadhaar or the bank first, then give the Gram Panchayat or block office a written request with copies and, if needed, an affidavit linking the names. Check the land record for the house site too. Do not pay anyone to "get your name in the list"; selection follows the scheme's guidelines.

Banglar Bari, Paschim Banga Awas and PMAY-G: One Grant, Many Names

In December 2024 the West Bengal government launched Banglar Bari, a state-funded rural housing grant of Rs 1.2 lakh per family in two instalments of Rs 60,000, after central funds under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) were held up. About 12 lakh families received the first instalment that month, from a list prepared through the state's own survey with claims and objections.

After the change of government in 2026, the scheme was renamed Paschim Banga Awas. In August 2026 the second instalment of Rs 60,000 was paid to about 10.2 lakh beneficiaries, and the government said new beneficiaries would get the first instalment after the Durga Puja season.

Older houses may have come under Indira Awas Yojana or PMAY-G. The name rules on this page apply to all of them: the paper trail must show one person.

Where It Goes Wrong

Where Housing Scheme Names Go Wrong

The beneficiary list is often prepared from survey forms filled at the doorstep or at camps, in Bengali, and later typed in English. Spellings drift: Haripada becomes Haripado, Bibi becomes Biwi, Mondal becomes Mandal.

Aadhaar may carry yet another spelling, and the bank account, opened years ago, a short form. Each of these is checked when money is sent.

If you are a Muslim family, Md, Sk and Bibi forms add to the gap. See Md, Mohd, Sk and Sheikh spellings.

Aadhaar and Bank

Aadhaar and Bank Account Name for Housing Instalments

Housing instalments are paid directly into the beneficiary's bank account. If the name in the account does not match the scheme list or Aadhaar, the payment can fail or be held.

Fix the bank account first, using Aadhaar. For a basic account, see Jan Dhan account name mismatch. If Aadhaar itself is wrong, see Aadhaar name change.

Then tell the Gram Panchayat or block office, in writing, that your account details are corrected. Keep a receiving copy.

Land

Land Record Name for a Housing Scheme House

A house is built on land the family owns or holds. Offices may ask for the khatian, a patta or a khajna receipt. If the land is still in a dead father's name, or recorded in a different spelling, questions follow.

Where the land is in a parent's or husband's name, show the family link. Where the spelling differs, link it by affidavit or correct the land record. See patta name mismatch and khajna receipt name mismatch.

Rural housing schemes have long been linked with job card work under MGNREGA; if your job card name differs, see job card name change.

Women

Women Beneficiaries: Maiden Name and Married Name

Housing grants are often sanctioned in a woman's name or jointly. A married woman's school papers carry her maiden name, while Aadhaar and the ration card carry her married name.

Keep the marriage certificate and an affidavit linking the names. See affidavit for name change after marriage.

For a widow, her husband's death certificate and her own papers must agree; see widow pension name mismatch.

Verification

Beneficiary Verification, Recovery and Why Your Papers Matter

In August 2026 the state government said about 12,500 ineligible beneficiaries had received money, that recovery had begun in about 1,000 cases with notices to others, and that some names linked to voter list deletions had been flagged.

Genuine beneficiaries should not panic, but they should make sure their papers clearly show who they are. A spelling difference between the list, voter card and Aadhaar is the kind of gap that invites questions.

If you receive a notice, answer it in writing with copies of Aadhaar, voter card, bank passbook and land record, and an affidavit linking any spellings. See voter ID name change.

How to Apply

How to Ask for a Name Correction in the Housing List

Write a short application to the Gram Panchayat Pradhan or the Block Development Officer: your name as in the list, your correct name, your beneficiary or survey number if you have it, and your village.

Attach Aadhaar, voter card, bank passbook, ration card and, if needed, an affidavit linking the spellings. Ask for a receiving copy.

Follow up before the next instalment date. Corrections made after a payment fails take longer.
