Job Card Name Change in West Bengal: MGNREGA to VB-G RAM G
A rural household's job card lists each adult worker by name. Wages are paid by DBT into each worker's account, and a name that differs from Aadhaar or the bank can make the payment fail. From 1 July 2026, West Bengal has notified the new VB-G RAM G scheme in place of MGNREGA, with 125 days of work a year and registration still with the Gram Panchayat. This page shows how to correct a name, add a married daughter-in-law, and keep payments flowing through the change.

Job Card Name Change (Quick Answer)
To correct or change a name on a job card in West Bengal, give a written application at your Gram Panchayat, or the Block office, with the card, the worker's Aadhaar, bank passbook and a photo. Make the name match Aadhaar exactly, because wages go by DBT and a mismatch can make them fail. Add a new member, such as a wife after marriage, the same way. The correction should cost nothing, and no gazette is needed.

| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Worker's name differs from Aadhaar | Gram Panchayat corrects the job card |
| Bank account name differs | Correct it at the branch |
| Aadhaar itself is wrong | Aadhaar Seva Kendra first |
| Wife joined the household after marriage | Add her to the job card |
| Member has died or moved | Ask the GP to delete or update |
From MGNREGA to VB-G RAM G in West Bengal From 1 July 2026
West Bengal notified the VB-G RAM G scheme to come into force from 1 July 2026 in all notified rural areas, replacing MGNREGA. Reports say it guarantees 125 days of wage employment a year to every eligible rural household, with wages paid through the DBT-SPARSH system.
Reports also say the Gram Panchayat manages registration and records, and that about 2.56 crore job card holders are expected to be covered.
What happens to old MGNREGA job cards under the new scheme was not clear in the reports we read. Ask your Gram Panchayat whether you need to register again or whether your existing card carries over.
Whatever the card is called, the name rules below still apply: the worker's name, Aadhaar and bank account must agree.
Why the Job Card Name Must Match Aadhaar and Bank: Aadhaar-Based Payment
Under MGNREGA, wages moved to the Aadhaar-based payment system, which sends money to the bank account linked with the worker's Aadhaar. A name that does not match can make the fund transfer fail.
Guides to job cards warn that if the name on the job card does not match Aadhaar or the bank account, the Fund Transfer Order can fail. Workers then see work done but no wages.
In 2024, reports also described job cards being deleted during Aadhaar linking drives. Keeping names right protects the card.
How to Correct a Name on a Job Card at the Gram Panchayat, Free
Write an application to the Gram Panchayat (or the Block office) asking for the name to be corrected. Attach the job card, the worker's Aadhaar, bank passbook and a recent photo.
Ask for the name to be entered exactly as Aadhaar prints it, including the surname and any middle name.
Guides say corrections take about 7 to 15 days and should be free. If anyone asks for money, ask for a receipt or complain to the Block.
Adding a Wife or Adult Member to the Job Card After Marriage
A job card is for the household. When a woman marries and moves into her husband's household, she can be added to that job card, and removed from her parents' card.
Carry her Aadhaar, preferably updated to the married name, and the marriage certificate if the surname has changed; see Aadhaar name change after marriage.
An adult son with his own household can apply for a separate card.
Aadhaar and Bank Account Names for Job Card Wage Payments
If Aadhaar is wrong, correct it first at a Seva Kendra; see name change in Aadhaar. Aadhaar allows only two name changes in a lifetime.
Make sure the bank account is linked with Aadhaar and that its holder's name matches; see name correction in a bank account.
Women workers who changed surname after marriage should update both Aadhaar and the bank together.
Job Card Deleted Over a Name or Aadhaar Mismatch: What to Do
If your card was deleted or your name removed, ask the Gram Panchayat for the reason in writing. If it was because of a name or Aadhaar mismatch, correct the record and ask for the card to be restored or reissued.
You can also raise it with the Programme Officer at the Block. A Gram Sabha or social audit is another place to raise it.
Free legal aid is available through the District Legal Services Authority if you are refused without reason.
