Kolkata Port Recruitment Name Mismatch: Admit Card and Photo ID Must Match Exactly
The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata, formerly Kolkata Port Trust, runs the Kolkata Dock System and the Haldia Dock Complex. Its recruitment notices are strict on names: your name must be spelt the same in the application, certificates and photo ID; a mismatch between the admit card and photo ID can keep you out of the exam hall; and a changed name needs an original gazette, marriage certificate or affidavit. This page shows how to line your papers up before you apply.

Kolkata Port Recruitment Name Mismatch (Quick Answer)
For Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port jobs, spell your name and your father's or husband's name exactly as your certificates and photo ID show them. The port's advertisement DR/25/14 says a candidate whose admit card name does not match the photo ID will not be allowed to sit the exam. For a changed name it accepts an original gazette, marriage certificate or affidavit. An affidavit costs about Rs 50 to Rs 300.

| Problem | Usual fix |
|---|---|
| Photo ID spells the name differently from certificates | Correct the ID, or carry a different ID that matches |
| Married name on ID, maiden name on certificates | Original marriage certificate |
| Spelling or format difference | Original affidavit |
| A real change of name | Original gazette notification |
| Father's or husband's name spelt differently | Type it as the certificates show it; affidavit for the rest |
Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata: Recruitment Notices Like DR/25/14
The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata is a major port under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. It has two parts: the Kolkata Dock System on the Hooghly in the city, and the Haldia Dock Complex in Purba Medinipur.
It recruits through advertisements on its own website. Advertisement No. DR/25/14, dated 15 September 2025, invited applications until 24 October 2025; job sites reported it as 38 posts. In 2026 the port also put out notices for Apprentice Dock Pilots at Haldia and a vacancy circular for marine posts.
Many port jobs are technical or marine posts with written tests, trade tests or interviews. The name rules below come from the general conditions of DR/25/14, which we read in full.
Applicants from the Haldia side can see name change help in Purba Medinipur; Kolkata applicants, gazette name change in Kolkata.
Kolkata Port Rule: Same Spelling on Form, Certificates and Photo ID
Note 3 of section X of DR/25/14 says the name of the candidate and of the father or husband should be spelt correctly in the application, and should be the same as it appears in the certificates, mark sheets and photo ID.
That is stricter than most notices, because it ties your form to your photo ID as well as your certificates. If Aadhaar, your Madhyamik certificate and your degree all spell your name differently, you cannot satisfy this rule until you bring at least the ID and the certificates into line.
Section I, Note 1 adds that false information cancels candidature, and if found after appointment, services are liable to be terminated.
Admit Card and Photo ID Name Mismatch: Entry Can Be Refused
Note 3 of section IX is the one that catches people on the day. It says the name on the admit card, which comes from your application, should exactly match the name on the photo ID you bring. If it does not, the candidate will not be allowed to appear for the examination.
The online guidelines used for port exams list acceptable IDs: voter ID, driving licence, PAN, passport and Aadhaar. You only need one that matches. Pick it before you fill the form, and type your name the way that ID prints it, provided your certificates agree.
The same guidelines say that where a name changed before or after marriage, the candidate must bring the original matriculation certificate with the original ID card.
Original Gazette, Marriage Certificate or Affidavit for a Changed Name at Kolkata Port
Note 2 of section IX says candidates who have changed their names will be allowed only if they produce the original gazette notification, their original marriage certificate, or an affidavit in original.
Use the lightest proof that honestly fits. A married woman using her husband's surname needs her marriage certificate; if it has a mistake, see marriage certificate correction. A spelling or format difference needs an affidavit; see one and the same person affidavit. A real change of name needs a gazette.
SAIL uses almost the same list for its Durgapur Steel Plant; see SAIL, IISCO and Durgapur Steel Plant name mismatch.
Father's or Husband's Name Mismatch in Port Applications
The port's rule covers the name of your father or husband too. Type it as your certificates print it, including initials.
If your father's name is spelt differently on your Madhyamik certificate and on his own Aadhaar, that is not your form's problem; your form follows your certificates. Keep an affidavit ready in case the verifying officer asks.
Married women who give the husband's name should carry the marriage certificate, which shows both names together.
Choosing the Right Photo ID for a Kolkata Port Exam
Look at every ID you hold: Aadhaar, voter ID, PAN, driving licence, passport. Find the one that spells your name exactly as your certificates do. That is your exam ID.
If none matches, correct one before you apply. Voter ID corrections through Form 8 are free. Aadhaar allows a name change only twice in a lifetime, so do it carefully; see name change in Aadhaar.
Do not carry an ID that matches the admit card but not your certificates, and hope the certificates are never checked. They are checked at document verification.
Kolkata Port Document Verification: What to Carry
Section X says non-submission of required documents disqualifies the candidate from further stages. Carry originals and copies of: your Class 10 certificate for name and date of birth (Madhyamik pass certificate, since the marksheet has no date of birth), qualification certificates and mark sheets, caste, EWS or PwBD certificate, experience certificates if asked, the photo ID and the admit card.
Put the original gazette, marriage certificate or affidavit in the same folder. The guidelines ask candidates to carry documents in a clear plastic folder on exam day.
Check your caste or EWS certificate carries the same spelling. Correct it through the SDO if it does not.
After Appointment: Name Problems Can Still Cost the Job
DR/25/14 warns that if false information is found even after appointment, services are liable to be terminated. A genuine spelling slip with proof is not false information, but an undeclared second name can look like one.
Declare any earlier name in your joining forms, with its proof. If you change your name after joining, the port follows central government rules for its staff: a deed, a newspaper notice and a gazette for a real change. See gazette notification for central government employees.
