Jeevan Pramaan Life Certificate Name Mismatch in West Bengal

A Jeevan Pramaan digital life certificate is made from your Aadhaar, then matched by your bank or post office against its pension records. If the name, PPO number or account number you give does not match what your Pension Disbursing Agency holds, the certificate can be rejected and your pension held up. This page shows how to find which record is wrong, what to do before the 30 November deadline, and when a name change in the PPO is really needed.

Jeevan Pramaan Name Mismatch (Quick Answer)

If your Jeevan Pramaan was rejected because of a name mismatch, ask your bank or post office exactly which detail failed. Generate a new certificate with the details exactly as the bank holds them. If the real problem is a different name in your PPO and Aadhaar, correct the wrong one. Meanwhile, give a life certificate in person at your branch so the pension does not stop. The certificate itself is free.

How It Works

How Jeevan Pramaan Digital Life Certificate Works for West Bengal Pensioners

Jeevan Pramaan is the government's digital life certificate. You prove you are alive with an Aadhaar fingerprint, iris or face scan, on a phone app, at a Common Service Centre, a bank or a post office.

The official FAQ lists what goes into it: Aadhaar number, name, mobile number, and self-declared pension details such as PPO number, pension account number, bank details, the Pension Sanctioning Authority and the Pension Disbursing Authority. It also says Aadhaar or VID is a must.

Central government, defence, EPFO and many other pensioners use it. If you are a West Bengal state pensioner, ask your treasury or bank whether your sanctioning authority accepts it; if not, the paper certificate is the route.

The certificate is not for life. Its validity follows your sanctioning authority's rules, and most pensioners give one every year in November.

Rejections

Why a Jeevan Pramaan Life Certificate Is Rejected for a Name Mismatch

The official FAQ warns that incorrect information may lead to rejection of the certificate by the authorities. After you generate it, your bank or post office, the Pension Disbursing Agency, checks it against its own pension records.

Your Aadhaar name comes into the certificate automatically. If your bank's pension record carries a different spelling, an older surname, initials, or the PPO name, the match can fail. A wrong PPO or account number fails it too.

If rejected, the FAQ says to contact your disbursing agency and generate a new certificate with all the correct information.

Find the Problem

Which Record Is Wrong: Aadhaar, PPO or Pension Bank Account?

Lay out three things: your Aadhaar, your PPO, and your pension passbook. Write your name as each shows it.

If only the bank's record differs, the branch can correct it against your PPO and Aadhaar. If Aadhaar is wrong, correct it; see name change in Aadhaar. Aadhaar allows only two name changes in a lifetime, so be sure before you use one.

If the PPO itself carries a wrong or old name, that is the harder fix, below.

PPO

Changing a Name in the PPO for Central, Defence and State Pensioners

For central civil pensioners, the Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare clarified in OM No. 3(2)/2022-P&PW(H)-7942 dated 6 October 2022 that the pension rules have no separate procedure for a name change in the PPO, and that the DoPT memorandum of 12 March 1987 is to be followed: deed, newspaper notice and gazette.

For Army pensioners, an order of 11 December 2024 sets the proof: a gazette for officers, a 1st Class Magistrate affidavit with an English newspaper notice for other ranks, and a Magistrate affidavit for a spouse or dependant. See ECHS card name correction for the full list.

For West Bengal state pensioners, the Pension Sanctioning Authority holds the record; the state's rule for a real name change is a deed, newspaper notice and Kolkata Gazette. See name change for West Bengal state government employees.

Family Pension

Family Pensioners: Married Name, Maiden Name and the PPO Spelling

A family pensioner's name may appear in the PPO as it was written on the spouse's service papers, while Aadhaar shows another spelling or surname. Both are true names of one person.

Show the branch your PPO, Aadhaar, and proof that links the two, such as the marriage certificate or a Magistrate affidavit. If the PPO itself needs correcting, the request goes through the bank or the pension authority with that proof.

The FAQ also says a pensioner who is re-employed or re-married cannot use Jeevan Pramaan; such cases need the paper route.

Keep It Running

Keep Your Pension Running With a Paper Life Certificate While the Name Is Fixed

A name correction in a PPO can take weeks. Do not let the life certificate lapse while you wait. Go to your pension branch in person and give a life certificate on paper, signed in front of the bank officer.

Pensioners usually submit in November, with 30 November as the usual deadline; pensioners aged 80 and above are allowed to submit from October. Check your bank's notice for the year.

Do not pay anyone for a Jeevan Pramaan. It is free at banks and post offices; a CSC may charge a small service fee.
