Rupashree Name Mismatch in West Bengal: Bride's Age Proof, Bank Account and Married Name
Rupashree Prakalpa gives a one-time Rs 25,000 to a West Bengal bride for her first marriage. She applies before the wedding, in her own name, with an age proof, a bank account in her sole name, and a wedding card or marriage notice. An Enquiry Officer checks it in the field, and the grant goes to that account. A name spelt differently across her age proof and passbook, or a surname changed too early, can hold up the money. This page shows how to keep the names straight.

Rupashree Name Mismatch (Quick Answer)
For Rupashree, the bride's name must be the same on her age proof (birth certificate, voter ID, PAN, Madhyamik admit card or Aadhaar) and her sole bank account. Fix any difference before applying. Keep her maiden name on that account until the Rs 25,000 arrives; change records to the married name afterwards with the marriage certificate. The groom's ID must also show his name correctly.

| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Age proof and passbook spell her name differently | Correct the passbook or use a matching age proof |
| Bank account is joint | Open or use a sole account in her name |
| Surname changed in the bank before payment | Keep the maiden name until paid |
| Groom's ID has a different spelling | Use an ID that matches, or correct it |
| Wedding card spells names differently | Ask for a corrected card or carry the marriage notice |
Rupashree Prakalpa in West Bengal: Who Gets the Rs 25,000 Marriage Grant
The official Rupashree FAQ says any woman who is about to marry can apply if she is 18 or older and unmarried, her groom is at least 21, her family income is not more than Rs 1.50 lakh a year, and it is her first marriage. The state's procedure adds that she must be a West Bengal resident by birth, five years' residence, or a parent's permanent residence.
She applies at the Block, Sub-Divisional or Municipal Corporation office for her area. An Enquiry Officer does a field check, and the grant is sent to her bank account.
Because a stranger checks her papers and a bank pays the money, every name must line up: hers on the age proof and passbook, and the groom's on his ID.
For the Kanyashree grant she may have received earlier, see Kanyashree name mismatch.
Bride's Age Proof for Rupashree: Birth Certificate, Madhyamik Admit, Aadhaar or Voter ID
Rupashree accepts any one of these as age proof: birth certificate, voter ID, PAN card, Madhyamik admit card, Aadhaar, or a primary school leaving certificate. Choose the one that spells her name exactly as her passbook does.
If none matches, correct one. A voter ID correction through Form 8 is free; see name change in voter ID. Aadhaar allows only two name changes in a lifetime, so use that carefully.
A Bengali name written two ways in English can cause trouble; see Aadhaar Bengali and English name mismatch.
Rupashree Bank Account Must Be the Bride's Sole NEFT-Enabled Account
The procedure asks for an active sole bank account in the bride's name, NEFT-enabled, with IFSC and MICR codes, and a self-attested copy of the passbook page showing the account holder's name, number, bank address and IFSC.
So a joint account with a parent will not do. And the account holder's name on the passbook should match her age proof letter for letter. If it does not, ask the branch to correct it; see name correction in a bank account.
Do not open a new account in a new spelling. Correct the old one, or open one sole account in the correct spelling and close the wrong one.
Groom's ID Name in a Rupashree Application
The groom gives an age proof too, self-attested by him. His name on that ID should match the name on the wedding card or marriage notice.
If his Aadhaar and voter ID differ, use the one that matches the card, or get it corrected. The Enquiry Officer may compare them.
A spelling slip in his name is still a correction, not a gazette matter.
Wedding Card or Marriage Notice for Rupashree: Check the Spellings
Rupashree accepts a marriage invitation card or a notice for registration of marriage as proof of the coming marriage.
Check the spellings on the card before it is printed in bulk. If the card is already printed with a different spelling, the marriage registration notice is a cleaner proof, because it carries legal names.
If you register the marriage later, use the same spellings; see marriage certificate correction if anything goes wrong.
Keep the Maiden Name Until Rupashree Is Paid, Then Change to the Married Name
Many brides take the husband's surname. Do it after the Rupashree money arrives. Changing the bank account name before payment can make it differ from the application.
Once paid, update Aadhaar, the bank, voter ID and PAN with the marriage certificate; see documents for name change after marriage. No gazette is needed for a married surname.
For Lakshmir Bhandar later, the same name rules apply; see Lakshmir Bhandar name mismatch.
