AISSEE Sainik School Admission Name Mismatch: Some Fields Never Unlock
The All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE) decides admission to Class VI and Class IX in Sainik Schools, including Sainik School Purulia in West Bengal. The National Testing Agency runs it. Its correction window lets you change many things, but not the child's name, date of birth, gender or parents' names. This page shows which record to copy from, what to fix before you apply, and what to carry.

About AISSEE and Sainik School Admission in West Bengal
The Sainik Schools Society under the Ministry of Defence runs the Sainik Schools, and the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts AISSEE for them. Entry is at Class VI and Class IX.
West Bengal's Sainik School is at Purulia. Sainik Schools keep a share of seats for children from their home state, so a West Bengal family usually needs a domicile certificate.
The AISSEE form usually opens in October or November for the next year's admission, followed by a short correction window. Dates change each year, so check the NTA AISSEE website for the current notice.
Read the information bulletin for your year fully. The details below come from reports of recent cycles.
The AISSEE Fields You Cannot Change in the Correction Window
Reports of the AISSEE correction process list the fields parents can change: category and sub-category, the class applied for, medium of the exam, exam centre choices, and the photo, signature and thumb impression.
The same reports list fields that stay locked: the child's name, date of birth, gender, father's and mother's names, the mobile number and email, and the address. Confirm this in the bulletin for your year, but plan as if these fields are final once you submit.
That makes the form itself the last chance. The real work is lining up the child's papers before you open it.
Which Record to Copy the Child's Name From
Use the birth certificate. It is the oldest record of the child's name and date of birth, and it is one of the documents asked for. For Class IX, the Class VIII school record is also read, so it must agree.
Compare the birth certificate with the school admission register and the child's Aadhaar. If they agree, copy the name letter by letter. If not, fix the wrong one first. Watch for Md against Mohammad, a missing Kumar or Kumari, or a surname the school left out; see Md, Mohd and Sk spellings.
If the child's Aadhaar differs, correct it with the birth certificate as proof; see name change in Aadhaar for a child.
When the Child's Birth Certificate Has No Name or a Wrong Name
Many West Bengal birth certificates were issued without the child's name. Get the name entered by the local body that registered the birth, the municipality or the gram panchayat office, before you fill the AISSEE form.
A misspelt name is a Registrar correction, not a gazette matter. See name change in a child's birth certificate. Allow a few weeks, because the AISSEE window is short.
Domicile and Caste Certificate Name Mismatch for Sainik School
To claim a home-state seat at Purulia, the family needs a West Bengal domicile certificate. Its names must match the form. If it has a spelling error, correct it on eDistrict before you apply; see domicile certificate correction.
If you claim SC, ST or OBC, the child's caste certificate must carry the same name and father's name. Get a wrong one corrected at the issuing office rather than applying for a second one. See caste certificate correction.
Father's and Mother's Name in the AISSEE Form
Both parents' names are locked fields, so type them exactly as the child's birth certificate shows them. A common slip is a mother's name typed with her married surname while the birth certificate shows her maiden surname, or the other way round.
If a parent's own papers spell the name differently, for example a defence service certificate in one spelling and the birth certificate in another, carry a one and the same person affidavit for that parent. Our page on mother's name correction explains which office corrects which paper.
If the Child's Name Is Already Wrong in the AISSEE Form
If you notice a mistake in a locked field after submitting, write to NTA through the contact details in the AISSEE bulletin, with a copy of the birth certificate, and keep a copy of your message. We cannot promise the answer, because the fields are reported as not editable.
Do not submit a second application to fix it. Prepare instead to explain the difference at admission, with the birth certificate and a parent's affidavit. Whether that is accepted is the school's decision.
What to Carry for Sainik School Admission
Reports of recent cycles list these documents for the form and admission:
- Birth certificate, or the Class V or VIII school record as applicable
- Domicile certificate, for a home-state seat
- Caste certificate, if claimed
- Defence service certificate, if claiming the defence category
- Recent photograph, signature and thumb impression
Carry originals and copies, and follow the list in the admission letter for your year.
If the Child's Name Has Really Changed
If the child's name has really changed, for example after adoption or a change of surname, the records will not match on their own. A minor cannot use the Kolkata Gazette, so the route is the central Gazette of India. See gazette name change for a minor.
A gazette is supporting proof. The birth certificate, school record and Aadhaar still need correcting one by one.
