In NEET PG, type your name exactly as your MBBS degree and medical council registration show it. Reports of the NBEMS edit windows list the name as not editable, so check it before you pay. If your West Bengal Medical Council registration carries an older name, update it before you apply. A married doctor with a maiden-name degree usually needs only the marriage certificate to link both names, which is no extra cost.

About NEET PG for West Bengal Doctors
NEET PG is the entrance test for postgraduate medical seats, conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) on natboard.edu.in. Seats are filled through all India counselling and state counselling.
Eligibility rests on an MBBS degree, a completed internship, and registration with the National Medical Commission or a State Medical Council, which for most West Bengal doctors is the West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC).
Each of these papers carries your name. So does your Class 10 certificate, your Aadhaar and your PAN. NEET PG is often the first time all of them are put side by side.

The NEET PG Name Field Is Locked in the Edit Window
A Careers360 report on the NEET PG 2025 edit window listed six fields that could not be changed: name, category, nationality, email, mobile number and test city. A Collegedunia guide to the 2026 window also lists the name, date of birth, MBBS registration number and council, degree details and internship date as locked.
The two reports differ on some fields, such as category and contact details. They agree on one: your name cannot be edited. Treat the name you type at registration as final.
Photograph, signature and thumb impression errors were allowed to be fixed in the final edit window in 2025; applications that still had faulty images were rejected.
Which Paper Your NEET PG Name Should Match
Match your MBBS degree and your medical council registration. These are the papers checked for eligibility and at counselling. If they agree with each other and with your Class 10 certificate, type that name, letter by letter.
If the degree and registration differ, fix that first, because you cannot fix the NEET PG form later. Watch for Md against Mohammad and missing middle names; see Md, Mohd and Sk spellings.

West Bengal Medical Council Registration Name Mismatch
Your registration certificate is a core eligibility paper. If it still carries an older name, for example your maiden name after marriage, update it with the West Bengal Medical Council before you apply, or at least before counselling.

Married Doctors: Maiden Name on MBBS Degree, Married Name Elsewhere
This is the most common NEET PG name problem. The MBBS degree and internship certificate carry the maiden name. Aadhaar, PAN and sometimes the council registration carry the married name.
Pick one name and make the papers that matter agree. Many doctors apply in the name on the degree and carry the marriage certificate, which links both names. Others update their WBMC registration to the married name first and apply in that, with the marriage certificate linking it to the degree. Universities do not normally reissue a degree in a married name.

Initials and Name Order Mismatch in NEET PG
Doctors from many states write names with initials first or last: S B Arun Kumar on the form, Arun Kumar S B on the degree. This is a format difference, not a change of name.

NEET PG Counselling and Joining: Where the Mismatch Is Checked
The name check happens at counselling and at the time of joining, when your NEET PG result is placed next to your MBBS degree, internship certificate, registration and identity proof. West Bengal state quota seats go through the state counselling body; all India seats go through central counselling.
Carry originals and copies of every paper, plus your linking documents: the marriage certificate, the gazette if you changed your name, and an affidavit for format differences. Whether a difference is accepted is the counselling authority's or college's decision.

If you changed your name by gazette after your degree, update your medical council registration with the gazette first, then Aadhaar and PAN. Apply for NEET PG in the name your registration shows, and carry the gazette to link it to the degree.
